Reversing lights not working so investigated switch. All images on net show a switch with 2 conections. Grey/Brown wires in and out.

Mine has 4 connections two grey/brown and two Yellow. The grey/brown are for reversing light switch.

What are the others for?

They are connected when switch is out but open circuit when pin inside switch to depressed (opposite to the reversing light mechanism).

I suspect they are to do with inhibitting start unless the gears are in the "Park" mode for the sportomatic. Can anyone confirm?

Having "fiddled" with the switch and replaced the reversing lights now work? I had supected the operationpin/plunger from indside the transmission had worn and was not pushing far enough into the switch. That's what many had reported on bulletin boards.

It might also explain why I only sometimes had to put the transmission into "Park" mode. I expect to have to do this all the time now.

I am beginning to think buying the Sportomatic was a mistake as there are so many "subtle" differences and it's almost impossible to find out what's what.

I just hope the switch doesn't fail as there does seem to be a replacement with 4 connections available from any suppliers.

I may be a Sporto expert by the time all this finishes!!
