Reversing Light

Hi All,

I've had my 996 C2 Tiptronic for about 3 months now (with no major problems so far) so I'm still quite new to this.

Since the nights have been getting darker recently I can see my rear lights light up the house opposite when I pull onto my drive.

I noticed the other day that when I move from reverse to drive, my reversing lights don't always go out.

When I got home tonight, I shifted in between reverse, neutral and drive a few times and the reversing lights always turn on when I go into reverse but sometimes stay on in neutral and drive and, on one occasion, turned off in neutral and then went back on when I moved into drive.

Has anyone had this problem - is it just a loose connection or new switch needed?

Nick!

The reversing lights are controlled by the multi-function switch of the tiptronic transmission. On pre-facelift cars they were mounted on the side of the gearbox, and on facelift cars they are on the bottom of the gear selector.

Sometimes the contacts can be problematic, which usually means a new multi-function switch. With a Porsche tester you can read the switch positions, so it is easy to tell if that is the problem.

Richard,

Thanks a lot for your response.

My car is a pre-facelift model.

Should I start by making sure the connections are sound before booking it in for a test? If so, when you say it's on the side of the gearbox, how do I access that - I take it I can get to it from under the car??
