Reversing lights faulty

Hi,

Both the reversing lights on my Boxster S don't work, and after checking the fuse and bulbs have come to the conclusion that it's probably switch activator in the side of the gearbox, is this a job that can be tackled on axle stands on the drive or is it a workshop jobby?

Also to prove the switch is faulty can the electrical connections be pulled off and shorted out?

Any help and advice much appreciated,

Cheers
Phil

I had the same issue on my car a couple of year back; no reversing lamps when reverse gear selected but all other systems fine. A faulty gearbox switch was the culprit and a replacement cured the problem. The switch is located on the right side of the rear of the gearbox (6 speed) and can be reached once the car is jacked up. You disconnect the plug and unscrew the switch from the gearbox casing. I believe you could remove the connector and bridge the pins to confirm whether the switch is faulty.

Thanks Alan for the confirmation before I get down and dirty!,
It's amazing what other faults you find when the electric door mirrors don't work and you check the fuse!!
