Rich Mixture

Hi Guys

Struggling to work out why my mixture is so rich.

Noticed that fuel pump can be heard (quite loud!), but only on tickover.

Tried driving around with passenger in back, but it can't be heard whilst driving.

Wondering if the FPR is not working, the pressure is building up when on tickover as little is being used, and the pump is then pushing against a high line pressure.

If the line pressure is too high, would that allow too much fuel into the cylinder?

What pressure should a 2.7 run at? (and a 2.5 as I have a spare 2.5 FPR)

Any ideas?

Cheers

Exhaust is sooty, kicking out loads of soot all over bottom of bumper etc! Tick over high - fouled plugs and died if reduced.
Checked plugs - VERY black and sooty but not oily.
Put correct plugs in.
Removed K & N filter.
Tightened AFM spring.
Plugs still black! ( but not as bad)

Have you thought about changing the coolant temperature sensor for the DME. If the DME htinks the engine is cold = lots of fuel. Other than than that lots of soot on your bumper = owning a modified turbo [:D]

PS that's your photo of my car car from Rutland that I knicked for my avatar

I did check the DME coolant sensor with the one out of my old 2.5 and the resistances were the same at the same temps.
Wonder if they should be different?

Thought it was!

Its ok - I wont charge!

The Gauge one is only a single pole on the old csr, so I checked the other one on the n/s of the bleed valve elbow.

Sounds like it could be your AFM Mike. Worth have a check with a multi meter if you have not. Don't have any values for a 2.7 though for resistance.
Alasdair

Engine thinks it is cold or thinks air coming in is cold is where I`d look (as said above)
