Right hand drive conversions

Assuming a right hand drive conversion has been properly carried out, are there any issues other than the resale values leaning more to the import cars than domestic prices?

This is with a view to purchasing a car that has had a conversion, rather than buying a lefty and having one carried out.

I've seen a few conversions advertised at specialist importers, but didn't bother looking seriously at any until now.

So, as long as the same parts and standard of work was carried out by an importer/specialist as Porsche did when producing official rhd models, it should be ok?

I suspect any RHD conversion done by the trade will be an attempt to make a profit and I would approach it expecting MANY corners to be cut. There are soooo many differences it is inconceivable that an after market conversion would be done to the same standard as the factory would expect. Little touches like the luggage compartment release handle would, I'm sure, be left on the left. Multiply that up by the many, many differences and I'm sure any converted car would be worth significantly less than the value of the LHD car that it started as.

If you want a RHD car - buy one. If you want the best driver, buy a LHD and leave it that way.

Regards

Dave

I'm not trying to save money here, I'm just trying to look at all options of sourcing a good rhd car; the day to day use (of which the car will get; maybe not all of the time, but it will be driven up to 7k miles a year) of a left hander is not practical for me.

I agree with Dave, buy a RHD one that came out of the factory as RHD. At least you will know the job was done correctly.
Hope you find one.
Cheers,
