Welcome to the forum Brian, and it's a shame it is under such circumstances. As Clive says, and I can't say I know how to go about it, try the Club valuation service. I had a similar problem when my daughter started driving, and wrote off her car. Like yours, the insurance company valuation wasn't derisory, but it was short of it's true value as the car was in exceptional condition with ultra-low mileage. I put the same criteria into an Autotrader search, and came up with only two cars which were more expensive than the insurance company's offer. I spoke to the valuations team, and asked them to do the same search while I was on the line. After some haggling, they did up the offer by about 20%.

I had a 996 tiptronic S,1998,silver,grey full leather,RHD,one previous owner, full service history,22,495 guaranteed miles,18 inch sport alloys, computer, tracker. The car was immaculate until a front tyre burst and the car spun out of control into a ditch. I have been offered £16,500 by the insurance assessors! Can anybody give advice on getting a proper value for such a unique vehicle? Brian Hamilton.

Select PCGB home page and click on "About PCGB" in the list. Select "Help and Advice" in the drop down box, then "Valuation". You can then download the application form. You will also need some photos (hopefully you have some pre-prang). [:(] Good luck. [:)] Regards, Clive

Sorry to hear this. When I did about 7,000 worth of damage to my Celica GT4 about 10 years ago, I did an Auto Trader search to guage a value (in that case to prevent it being written off) and was successful negotiating with the ins co. I just did similar for 1998 / 911 and tiptronic and found 16 examples between 14,250 and 16,495 and just 2 (trade sales) at 17,990. This would suggest the value of 16,500 for yours is not too far out. Unfortunately, from past experience, such a low mileage in an 11 year old car doesn't add hugely to the value (over one that has done a 'low' 50,000 to 60,000 miles). Good luck with your negotiations.

I had the same problem some years ago when a taxi driver wrote off my parked car. I got as much price related evidence as I could before arguing with them. I turned down 2 of their offers and after some haggling got a more reasonable offer. I also threatened going to the Insurance Ombudsman that they were assigned to. They never give you what the car would have sold for on the open market though. Good luck.

turn down the offer, they will no doubt add at least another £750 to their first offer. Then you will be about on the money for the lower mileage.

Hi Brian. Sorry to hear of your woes! (Your tenth Porsche!! Wow!) It's sad but I'm afraid that £16.5K for this age 996 isn't too far off the mark - despite the incredible mileage! I would push for another £1000 to £1500 with a view to them coming back with circa £800-£900 and then take the money. Maybe this will help put some perspective on the situation for you: I have a 2003 996 C2 in immaculate condition with just 22K miles, fsh and fantastic spec on it. I was offered less that £20K by a dealer for it against another car!!. To make matters worse - this was over a year ago![:(] Take the money, Brian. Adrian.

what is your excess? don't forget that figure would be after your excess. If it was £500 that would mean they value it around 17k
