Rims refurbishment

Hi,

When I bought my car in '03, my spec. included the 18" SportClassic (two piece) wheels. Over the last few years, the rims (but not the 'facing' piece you can unscrew from the wheel) have become badly stained - like something eating away the finish from the inside.

Having seen the ad in January's Porsche Post (page 11) I emailed for a quote. Didn't seem too bad at £50 plus VAT per wheel with 1 year g'tee - but firm is unfortunately based in the Midlands, whereas I'm just outside Croydon.

Can anyone recommend a rim refurbisher in the Surrey / London area?

Cheers,
Mike.

I've recently had a set of Cayenne wheels refurbished by Lepsons of Gilligham in Kent. The result was really impressive and indistinguishable from new. If you call them they will give you the nearest company they pick up from. I dropped mine off at a local Ferrari restoration company, and they reckoned the quality was much the best they had experienced compared with other 'well known' refurb specialists.
Dropped mine off on a Monday night, returned on the Friday. Cost £65 each, all in.

Hi Mike
Was the quote for the whole wheel or just the outer rim. Mine were done 18 months ago and are starting to stain again although the centres are perfect.
Cheers

Mine were one piece, so worth a call for prices on a split rim. Can't speak for the longevity, I'm afraid.

......thanks Peter - will certainly give Lepsons a call.

Cliff - yes - like you, my 'inners' look pristine and always come up nice after a wash. The price quoted to refurb both pieces is £85 per wheel, which "includes brand new torque bolts and painted in the original equipment bbs silver finish".

Have to say that I felt really disappointed re. the staining having forked out a fair sum for the wheels - although I understand that this is something which the manufacturers haven't found a solution to yet?

Cheers,
Mike.

Reply to Mikemotor,
I think the original price you were quoted is not for the "split rims" as to refurb properly the wheels need to be split and new bolts applied after the refurb. The second quote seems good value to me and that firm has had good reviews on this forum in the past but do check exactly what they intend to do with your wheels.
Earlier this year I was quoted £125 +vat per wheel for the full refurb of 18" "Sports Classic" wheels for my S by Wicked Wheels who have a depot in Great Yeldham Essex (info@wickedwheels.co.uk or 08703003224) their MD gave a talk to R11 on a club night earlier this year, they quoted me £65+vat per wheel for the 16" ers on my Audi (plain one piece 5 spokes), these prices included collection and delivery, presumably they leave the car on axle stands 4-5 day turnaround for the split rims and 2-3 days for the one piece
