hi i think my rms is getting worse on my02 c4 tip has any one ever done a diy job replacing the seals and if so any major problems i hear it can be hard to get coolant back in or has any one had it done latley and can give me an idea of cost and hours

I have heard that on a tiptronic car both the engine and box have to be removed? As for DIY, definately not for me, thanks. Porsche centres are charging around £800.

I was advised than unless it is really bad try to get it done the same time as a clutch.

Not sure if engine has to be removed, i think it can be dropped to get access not completely removed but i may be wrong...

Thanks,

Steve

As Geoff says, on the facelift cars with Tiptronic, the transmission and engine have to be removed as one unit. Book time for that is 7.5 hours, plus splitting the two, removing the torque converter, and replacing the seal. Not for the faint-hearted, and you need one or two special tools, a car lift, etc, etc.

hi is that £800 from porsche or the indys

That was a figure mentioned by a Porsche Centre when my RMS was being replaced under warranty. That was for a 997 manual, which does not need engine removal. Most PC's are looking for work so haggle! Oh, and there's always the dreaded VAT to add.[:(]

praise the lord i had the car up on the lifts last night to fit front end ploy suspension bushes so i took the oppertunity to check my rms properly to find it was only my cam chain tensioner buy the oil filter leeking with the aid of some ptfe tape its fixed yahoo thanks for your advice on the matter

i hope this gives a glimmer of hope to all owners running round with a moist rms
