RMS cause engine to blow. Its for real.

Guys/gals, suggest you take a look at this thread on renntech and read it carefully. Especially p.viby's comment.

"My car had a new engine because because of a suddenly main seal leak which blew the engine"

This is a serious concern and it unfortunatly answers our worst nightmare!

When, when when! is Porsche going to do something about this. Can't they see we are drowning.
I so hope that PCGB can help us get to the bottom of this problem. Time is running out for us all.

Doesn't say how main seal leak blew up his engine though.

How can a leaking RMS possibly cause engine failure?
 
Is the problem with the RMS, or engine failure, or is it is with PGB's attitude to after sales care? In the renntech thread you will find that P Viby is delighted that he got a new engine fitted under warranty, and I suspect that Scouser would also be delighted if he got one, although it isn't clear why he hasn't got any warranty on the car.

Obviously Porsche Denmark (Mr Viby's country of origin), and Porsche America have a different policy to Porsche GB. We still do not know the true extent of the problem, but it is undoubtedly a minority problem. However, I don't deny that for this minority it is a big issue.

My car doesn't have any kind of warranty. It was supplied with one of those mechanical breakdown warranties (now expired) that independent dealers tend to use. I took the risk when I bought it, haven't renewed or attempted to get any other cover, and if it all goes t*ts up I only have myself to blame. At this moment PGB's shortcomings in this department don't concern me as my car is 7 years old and I wouldn't dream of using an OPC. I rely on independents who don't have huge overheads and expensive coffee, and enjoy the car for the pure pleasure it gives me driving it.

Can't we have a thread about Porsche GB's cr*p attitude, rather than perpetuating the RMS issue and blowing it even further out of proportion? I do hope that the club survey figures are released soon.
 
There's a letter from someone in the Q&A section of a recent 911 & Porsche world magazine in which his 996 suddenly dumped all its oil.

Noticed a huge cloud of smoke in his RV mirror, saw his oil pressure was zero and immediately stopped the engine.

Car was recovered to his OPC to find that a 'cap' which seals off one of the oil flow channels had parted company with the sump.

Amazing thing is, no damage to the engine, believe it or not.

There's a letter from someone in the Q&A section of a recent 911 & Porsche world magazine in which his 996 suddenly dumped all its oil.

Noticed a huge cloud of smoke in his RV mirror, saw his oil pressure was zero and immediately stopped the engine.

Car was recovered to his OPC to find that a 'cap' which seals off one of the oil flow channels had parted company with the sump.

Amazing thing is, no damage to the engine, believe it or not.

Exactly the same happened to a Boxster owner last week. OPC refilled with oil and then proceeded to dump it all on the road outside. Try again lads was the cry, they found the plug missing the second time round.

The Engine on my car that blew was not due to the RMS. It is printed in my service manual that it is done by Porsche and I saw the service slip when I bought the car.
