Apologies for another RMS etc related thread, but...

...Can anyone please explain to me why we only get/got a two year warranty in the UK on a brand new 996 whereas in the US it's a four year warranty?

We did not always have a 4 year warranty. I have a 1997 Boxster. Model year 1997-1998 was 2 years. It went to 4 years for model year 1999 when we finally got the 996. Jeff

Various rumours as to why (parting gesture from a senior exec etc), but at the end of the day it is the marketplace - when the rest of the marketplace are offering 4/5/6/lifetime warranties then Porsche had to step up or lose business - especially with their slightly more litigious society.

In the UK we get shafted, plain and simple. People keep buying the cars, so why bother with a longer warranty.

Its not just 2 years only in the UK, its everywhere except the US

So little chance of us making a change on our own.
