RMS....interesting pics

Berny

I remember you said (just before going to Spain) that Tech9 had the idea of putting the RMS in the 'wrong' way round. Did anything ever come of that?

Did I say that? I never said that nudge nudge wink wink.

Remember.......it's supposed to be hush hush

No not yet. I will tell you soon though. Strangely my RMS has stoped leaking.........but I know its just in remission [;)]

Passing this on FYI.

A guy on renntech (Bavarian) posts in English (the author I presume by his Forum name is German):
Having read the entire thread, I found the first comment most interesting: they will not be able to replace this owner's ("BigDaddy")RMS because PAG is scrapping all their existing replacement parts. The new parts will be available in August, and are expected to put an end to this problem once and for all.
We shall see.....

Interesting... shows what a pile of c**p the engine really is [:'(]

Nick,

I know you ended up forking out £8000 when your engine blew up, but i'm certain you've been conned.
(Higgy) Richard Higginson who is often on here had almost the same experience as you, engine blew up out of warranty and Porsche GB (Im pretty certain coughed up about £7000). If i'm wrong, i apologise. Many members here wouldn't have stood for that sort of expense on a car that is designed for racing.

I'd like to know how Porsche coughed up that much. I don;t believe it.

In my case after they (Porsche GB) replaced 7 RMS's they finally said the only way to fix it is to replace the engine at a cost to me of £4500 +VAT plus fitting + VAT which ammounted to 50% of the cost according to them. I stood up to it as much as I can but still didn't get anywhere. I didn;t get the engine changed since the only thing that's wrong with it is an extremely slight drip once a month. The engine performs perfectly apart from that......proof of my trip to Spain and back. Also I drove it to London and back in a day last week and again she just purred along. But PAG never offered me £7000 towards the cost of a replacement engine either. Nick's engine blew up! You would think they would offer some portion of good-will but thye obviosuly didn;t. It isn't a case of being conned it's a case of extremely poor after service and trust in both the marque and the company that manufactures this exotic car.

Interesting stuff Berny - but i thought every replacement RMS, and its different designs over the years 'would stop the leaks once and for all '

Yup. That's the theory Dave. ......... and so it goes on. The way I see it is if PAG have a "fix-for-good" RMS seal they are going to have a hard time selling it as nobody believes them anymore. If they "really" do have a fix-for-good RMS seal then here's what they should do:

* recall every 996 out there.
* Explain to the owners that they acknowledge there is a problem but have identified a permanent fix.
* For cars still under warranty or ext warranty they just fix it.
* For cars that are out of warranty, just fix it.......but under the provisio that the customer signs up to the extended warranty. Else they pay for the fitting of it..
* Provide a warranted guarantee that with the new RMS seal fitted it will be covered for the life of the car if driven and serviced appropriately (10 years or 150,000 miles).
