RMS - Sorry to bring it up yet again!

Last weekend I noticed the dreaded spots of oil on the garage floor. RMS, I thought straight away [] but I'm fortunate enough to be covered by a Porsche Warranty.

Anyway, busy week and all so have yet to call the OPC to book her in. The oil spot is now a positive small puddle, so I went to top up the oil this afternoon and there is a load of emulsified oil in the filler cap!

I know the RMS post has been done a million times so apologies, but is the emulsified oil linked or a seperate issue (head gasket?)

Either way its going to an OPC and as you have a Porsche Warranty why worry ..... let them decide [&o]

Loads-if not all-996's have the mayo in the filler cap, especially if used for short journeys. My OPC said its nothing to worry about.

goey oil in the filler cap is common on all 996s. it because the filler tube lays flat.

Yep thats right, try cleaning out all the goey and this time of the year it will normally stay away until the weather starts to get cold again.

Hi! Had the same Dijon Mustard in my filler pipe at 6K miles (when I bought the car) - initially turned down the puchase as I was convinced the head had gone! I had only ever seen this in the filler cap of a Morris Minor years ago - the head gasket had gone. Did some research and found out that it is common on all 996 models. Think it is mainly due to the pipe being quite long and the cold air rushing past the end of the pipe whilst the other end is hot - near the crank case. The hot air in the tube condenses and mixes with the oil laying in the flat pipe causing the condement to form. Went into an OPC and took the cap off a 997 with 1.5k miles on it - it had the same gunk in there to!
As for the oil patch/slick - see OPC. Good job you have warranty! Best of luck!

I had this on mine and it turned out to be a return oil pipe into the crank casing. it has an odd name like Bellows Housing or sth.

I had an OPC warranty but it was down to a seal which was not covered but then the gasket was which failed

I gave OPC a hard time over it and argued how can you cover one bit and not another!

make sure you get a courtesy car as it became a very handy bargaining chip when they said no to warranty cover at first.
ok I will keep it then til we sort it....at 100 pounds a day cost to them!

they soon bent over and realised the error of their ways

good luck
Nick

Thanks for all your help guys, much appreciated (had the goo in my Elise and that WAS a HGF!)

Cars going in next week and they are going to change the clutch at the same time (provided it is the RMS of course) as it is on 34,000 miles.

Given me a Cayenne S for a couple of days so I'll be keeping that if they start playing silly buggers!![;)]

Does anyone know if while they were doing this it would be a cheap time to get the switch fitted on my PSE??
