RMS what cost?

My son is about to buy privately a two and half year old Boxster S which has not got the extended warranty. An RAC check has shown some slight oil in the region of the RMS . The current owner has suggested he take it into an OPC next week and he will remedy any problem - the RAC suggested the cost would be about £1000. However the vendor has offered a £500 reduction to take the car today.

What would an OPC charge for an RMS replacement and is there a chance of any goodwill given that the car has only 15k miles and has been serviced at an OPC - it is a one owner car.

What would an indy charge?

My son quite naturally is eager to get his first Porsche as soon as possible and especially for this long weekend having drooled over his fathers cars for years.

Can anybody help
Thanks Jonathan

The OPC will rip you off.

My local indy can do the RMS AND replace the clutch for about £700.

I bet it doesn't even need doing...they all 'sweat' a bit you just need to make sure it doesn't get worse every 12 months

What he said, but cars up to 5 years old might be done under goodwill - at the discretion of the Porsche Centre...

As per Marks comment, if its got full PSH then the OPC should do it FOC under goodwill. An indi would charge about £500 for the same work, OPC more like £800. The part costs about £30, its the labour of engine out etc etc.

If its only dripping one drip a week then i wouldn't worry about it too much - best to pocket the £50 and hang on for a later date if the OPC don;t do it for free and even then try to wait until the clutch is well worn.

And they don't all sweat - my 986 was dry and so too is the current steed.

I agree on this, they don't all sweat; I had the RMS done on my 986S when it was one and a half years old (under warranty) and ever since then it has been completely dry; three and half years now. Also as everyone has said you should be able to get this done under goodwill.
