Took my car in to Porsche Sheffield for some squeaks and rattles that have been annoying me since the car was purchased.
Im away in Italy all week on holiday, so just leaving it with them during my week away.
I must say, Im delighted with the service so far, got a call yesterday with reported oil leak on the rear main seal, so that will be done while it is in as well. Tyres are down to 3mm on the rear as well, seems the car is quite tyre hungry then! (mileage currently at 7.5k)

I had a shocking dealer encounter with JCT at Leeds and will never be going back there. Basically involved me taking the car in for aforementioned rattles, and after 2 days of having the car, they rang me up and told me that they had removed most of the dash and found the rattle. An hour later, I got a call from Tracker saying the car had been moved, it was only then that I realised that I hadnt left the keyfob for the tracker. They wouldnt even admit they hadnt moved the car, and carried on with the bullshit. Picked the car up the next day, and nothing was fixed, and more lies. The sound is from your aftermarket suspension springs rattling, etc etc. A total insult.

Anyway, will keep you informed on my progress.

So that's an RMS on a 997, then? How old is the car if you don't mind my asking?

Car is 1 year old.
Was speaking to one of the Techs in the dealership and they have done a heap of RMS fixes on 997's. Two were in the workshop being done when i dropped mine off.

My 35k mile C4S (2002) has developed the same problem. Porsche have said it shouldn't be driven until replaced (which it will be next week).

It may be a daft question but, so long as I check the oil level regularly, is this really the case?

Unless the oil is gushing out that is complete nonsense. A lot of these seals weep or dribble oil and can safely be left until the next clutch change. This is just a money spinner for OPC's. If the car is under extended warranty then go ahead but if not think twice before spending your hard earned.

Thanks for that. I bought it off Christopher Neil (non OPC) who are doing it next week. Have asked them to check the other seals and the clutch whilst the engine is out.

I've only had the car a month and it was serviced and MOT'd before I collected it, so they are meeting the cost of the RMS bit as it should have been spotted then really.

I'd no idea that it was such a common problem.

I thought Porsche were changing the RMS for free under goodwill anyway ?
(They seem to be doing so for Boxsters)

Further update to this, well, turns out same again, dealer just blames aftermarket springs for interior rattles. This is ruining the enjoyment of this car for me, I've paid all this money for a car that rattles more than anything I have owned. Not happy at all.

I took up the issue of the RMS with Porsche Customer Service yesterday.

Because the car, which has full Porsche history up until it was sold to me by Christopher Neil (and then also serviced by Christopher Neil who is not an OPC and so they may have used non-Porsche parts for the service) they say that this means that Porsche are not prepared to get involved in the matter.

The possible non-Porsche bits used in the service may, they would seem to suggest, have caused the problem etc.

Sorry to hear of your woes, Sheffield didn't impress me when I bought my 997 earlier this year, the car had not been prepared properly and was supplied with a number of faults, this was despite the reaussurance that the car had "gone through the workshops with a fine tooth comb".

Frankly I find it depressing the number of posts I read on this site and pistonheads about people who have had poor dealer experiences. I decided not to bother the return my car to Sheffield OPC and Cambridge came to my rescue and sorted the car properly.

Surley there must be somone out there from Porsche GB who frequents these websites a realises that all is not well with their customer satisfaction.

For what it's worth my car is on standard suspension (with PASM) and has a number of trim rattles, and it seems this is quite a common 997 complaint. It's unlikley that your uprated suspension is the reason, I doubt it's much firmer than PASM in sport mode, but a good excuse not to cover the work under warranty.

*rant over*

My earlier posting related to oil levels but PC Bristol advised me that I too have a weeping RMS which as I write is being changed under my extended warranty.
As I have only done 4k since its last inspection pre renewal ( there was a brief gap before it was taken out) it presumably has occurred between 14 & 18000mi - or else was not noted by the previous PC....
