Road angel £300 and Origin £350

Hiya i spoke to www.beldirect.co.uk

Speak to a lovely lady called Maria

They sold me my road angel.

Their prices are £300 road angel for PCGB members and £350 for the latest Origin b2.

I am getting talked into buying a the origin as it as good as road angel and smaller. i am goig to research it now whether it worth while?

They are so good they will take back my road angel for the 340 i paid them

I have quickly compared the two and will stay with my existing road angel.

My reasons are

The Road angel costs £300 and a all in one unit with first 12 months free subscription then life subscription of 99 pounds . It has a serial port built in to go straight away to a laptop or PDA for sat nav. This bulkier but all in one, come with two car cables and so easy for me to move car to car. I have this wired up to my PDA for Sat Nav

The origin B2 has a lot more features which one may want and is smaller but because it is in 3 parts
The unit itself and then a seperate antenna and cabling. Hence why the bit you see is small, . Ti would make it more frustrating to move car to car.

Also this can output GPS date to a PDA but the cradle is an extra 45 pound and not out for few months. The subscription on this free for 6 months and then 50 a year.

I admit it i like listening to the music loud and smetimes dont hear the warning bleep. The big advantage i think that the road angel has is that the screen changes green to red and flashes. It gets you attention quickly but when its darker.

What PDA are you using & what cable/adaptor did you need? The reason I ask is I am using a Road Angel connected to a PC which is a bit bulky so I am contemplating purchase of a PDA.

Thanks,

Pete

rajuk, glad to see a new member taking an active part in the forum. I've posted some pictures of the Road Angel mounted with and without laser alert on my own Boxster Forum. The pictures are a bit naff as they were taken with my PDA. You can see them here:

Road Angel Pictures

There are also pictures of the Navman iCN630 SatNav unit that I purchased this week somewhere on the site!

I've tried the GPS output with Road Angel on my laptop (running AutoRoute 2004) and it is excellent but very bulky as a navigation solution, hence, I ended up purchasing a dedicated SatNav unit.

Taz (rumba)
Porsche quoted me 4K to fit PCM to get the SatNav! The Navman iCN630 cost me under a grand. It's also looks very cool!

Did that £300 include the laser bits or am I just being greedy?

Thanks to Rumba for those neat pics ... I see what people mean by the laser attachment being a little awkward to keep taking out.

Not at all, the cradle the B2 sits in makes it much easier to move, i
admit you would need a second cradle for your other car which is £39.95,
or a second car kit (cradle, laser alert, power lead, antenna) for £99.95.
The unit sits in the cradle which is like a hands free kit. Take it off
and pop it in other car.
Also the laser alert is miles smaller than the road angel one. Bout half
the size of a cigarette lighter.

True, but worth it.
