using a road angel 2 for obvious reasons however when using the power lead in the cig lighter socket the radio starts to crackle and loose its station any one else have the problem?
dont want to hard wire as i use it in my other cars.

I use the socket in the passenger footwell & suffer from the same problem.
I dont think much can be done since for it to work properly it needs to be close to the centre of the dash but I will be very pleased to hear if someone has a solution.

its just to the right of the aerial but have tried it in various postions on the dash seems to make no difference. prehaps the issue is the power supply cable?

I don't have the supply in the footwell (bloomin MY06 cheap skates) but the manual says any electrical devices should be powered from the socket in the central armrest - you can't get much further fromt he windscreen !! Great design process Porsche!

I run both my Snooper RD and PDA based Tomtom from the power socket in the ashtry with no issues

I get radio interferrence in my 986 when I use my Road Angel - it happened with the Mk1 and Mk2 versions. I believe the unit itself is the source of the interference, not the power lead/socket, since I don't get this effect in the Volvo. The main difference between installations is the Volvo aerial is in the rear nearside window, whereas the Boxster's is in the front screen. I guess one option would be to try the external GPS antenna, and mount it far on the right if it will go (but then it would be over the speaker?).
