Road tag (France) not being read inside car

Hi,

I recently went over to France with my 2006 Cayenne last week and placed my French toll tag just to the left side of the internal rear view mirror. But the toll gates don't read the tag. I tried waving the tag around inside different parts of the entire screen but still no joy. Only way was to wind down the drivers window and hold the tag outside of car!
It works fine in my Carrera C4S just next to the rear view mirror.

Does anyone have any advice if it's possible to get the tag to be read when mounted inside the windscreen?

The windscreen Looks Like Original Porsche But How To Check?

I also have a tag, but cayenne not yet arrived. This problem is usually caused by having one of those fancy UV filtering screens, which block the tag signals. I have also heardbhatba heated screen can cause this problem. Clearly its not the tag, so has to be the screen.

Yes, well i guess so....i was hoping that there might have been a "magic" spot somewhere on the screen that allowed the tag to work. I think that i will try installing the tag inside the side mirrow, behind the glass and see if that gets read.

My tag works in my boxster screen. Is there an area of black dots on your screen around the mirror? If so, this is where you should stick the tag.
I have seen on other forums that these tags even work from the glove box - might be worth a try?
Hanging it out of the window is still better than hanging out to pay cash or card.

Yes that's where I put the tag to start with.....next to the rear view mirror where the black dots are.......that also works in my BMW X5 but not in the Cayenne. Will try the glove box but really can't imagine that will work! But thanx for the tip.
The road tag is a God send.....after two trips to Europe with a nagging wife who had to try reaching the toll machine from the Carrera passenger seat, I was easily swayed.

Angus give SANEF a ring they will sort it .I dont know how long the batteries last .
They will probably replace it.I have a Cayenne and they worK perfectly well if
mounted in the DOTS

Perfect! That's the answer that I was hoping for......that someone else with a cayenne had the tag working.I hadn't considered the units batteries but that could exactly explain it.Thanx for your reply.

We just use it hand held without a problem, as we swap between cars. No problem, so it may well be the battery. Talking of which, the tracker fob has packed up, and less than a year old.

Be careful hand held Peter it is no joke when the Mrs drops it and it goes under a wheel
.....You can get extra screen mounts .
Angus while i think of it Heated Front screens cause a problem ?

Recently returned from France, brand new tag in the recommended place (09 cayenne with large top box), didn't seem initially, had to wave it out of the window but percevered and found that it did work but not until front of the car car very close to the barrier arounf 1 foot or less, found the T30 lanes much easier as the detectors are placed to let you cruise through at 30Kph, didn't go that fast but detection seemed more reliable / earlier.

Neil I have been using them for many years and the recent
updates at the peage made them ping at a fair distance drom the barrier.
However on a recent trip with KN it was very frustrating as the bonnet was more
or less touching the bar before it lifted .I will give Sanef a ring tomorrow and
ask why and if they have been altered .
I thought it might be something to do with the very latest transmitter they are using
but it is not as my other two both 5 years old are doing the same .

Hi Neil,

I eventually solved problem by wedding the tag under the plastic shroud that comes from the interior light down to the rear view mirror. Just moving it that 3cm got it in the right spot. Nite I just follow the local drivers and can hit speeds of up to 90 kms through the barriers. Just kidding. But nite it works every time and week before the actual barrier.

Angus when did you last go through the Peage ?
Something has changed in the last few months

It was 3 wks ago. I had stuck my mount just on the edge of the black dotty bit behind the mirror but it wouldn't work. As I didn't have time nor tools to pry of the mount I just tucked it up behind the tube that comes from interior light to mirror and it work fine.
Unless anything changed in the last 3 wks.

I was there 2 weeks ago .
The dotty bits is the correct place to put the Tag
I will post tomorrow after speaking to Sanef .
Maybe they cut the distance down as people were approaching the
barriers much too fast where they have refurbed the approaches

I spoke to Sanef UK this morning unfortunately the
manager was not there so i will call tomorrow .
The assistant said they know that some adjustments have been made to the
barrier approach in France but did not realise that it was so severe as
some of us are experiencing .
If no joy i will call France .

I placed my Tag as shown below on my Cayenne 2014 had no problems from the UK South France
Hope it Helps
