Road Tyres

I need four new tyres for the road. I have been more than happy with my current P-zero Rosso's but availability is an issue, I am therefore also considering Bridgestone S-03 PP's and Dunlop Sport Maxx. Any thoughts ? Incidentally I have a set of Dunlop SSR's for dry track days.

Thanks

Hi Ian

SO2's still available -but haven't heard anything positive about S03's though.......

Thanks for the replies. Looks like the S02's then, but before I do aren't S02's old stock and therefore "going off", plus I have always found the ride quality of p-Zero's resonable (relativley). What about the Bridgestones?

Hopefully see you at Oulton Park.

Ian

I can recommend Michelin Pilot Sport ( not Cup) ......stiff sidewall suits the RS , bit noisy but last well . Have also heard that Toyo Proxes are good for boggo 964s , not N rated though.

P-Zeros N 4. There's nothing better for thr Nurburgring. Bracknell Tyres are the cheapest in the country at £150 for rear (265) and about £110 for front fitted.

Anyone have any feedback on the ContiSportContact 2? It is one of only a few N rated tyres in the right sizes for a 964 RS that are available. I have received a good quote for a set to go on some spare wheels but just wondered if anyone uses them? I am told they are relatively soft so ride and grip well, wear rate is less of an issue for me.

I must admit that despite hearing good things about SO2s, I can't help but feel a more modern tyre would offer better performance.

Thanks

I have SO2's on my car and think they are great. It is the 3rd different type of performance car I have used SO2's on and can say that despite trying other tyres, I keep coming back. If you look at the "newer technology" tyres, they generally aren't as good all round. The SO3's were a total disaster (which is why they brought back the 2's).You will find newer tyres that are better in the dry but not as good in the wet while you will find ones that are the other way around. The simple fact is that the S)2's come so close to the best in both wet and dry that IMO, there is no need to look any further.

I think it takes a brave company to bring back an old favorite in an admission that, despite their best efforts, they cannot develop a better tyre. If they are prepared to admit that, it has to say something.

Are the SSRs not ok for a road tyre? Mine seem fine. I know they would be grippier when warm, but at road levels of driving the last ounce of grip seems less than essential. I admit Cups would be a bit punchy but I know some rs drivers who never take them off....

Yes SSR's are ok for the road but a more convential road tyre is certainley preferable at this time of year and especially for wet track days. Personally I prefer to keep the SSR's as spare rims for the track. Anyway ive just ordered a set of SO2's, £485 all in.

Yes, Jeff I am still racing, in a fashion, managed to get reasonably fit last year and am hoping to keep the momentum going into '06', How about you ?

Hi Ian, have you got your tyres now as I am able to get a Good deal on Michelin.
I am now trying to get fit for the tour of Flanders sportive, doing it with my Brother from NZ. Looking for a 28 sprocket!
I will see how I am going after that.
Doing the Le Mans Classic this year and hoping to to be able to do the 2 laps of the circuit. We were able to do this at the last one cost 100Euros but it was worth it!!

Hi Jeff
I am now sorted for my tyres , thankyou. However I am very interested in your Flanders trip which I assume is on 01/04/2006. Also interested in your Le Mans trip as I went to the modern version last summer. Interestingly my tall bad backed passenger found the RS more comfortable than the Boxster S which partnered us on the trip.We were tipped off about a fabulouscross
country route which proved to be fast, scenic and Gendarme free.
