Roll cage padding - for road cars - Possible group buy

We revisit this topic on a regular basis, and I've been wondering what to do with my Civic

(btw this is possibly my car in action in a previous life as a works Group N car - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQl23VvYCiI )

The FIA padding is so hard, it's difficult to see that it would make sense in road driving without a helmet. I've found this stuff

http://www.rollbarpadding.com/prod_DualDurometer.html

No one in the UK sells it yet, but the manufacturers are happy to ship from the US - not surprisingly it's cheaper in cases of 12. I don't have shipping costs yet, but I would think it will come out in the region of £25 per 3 foot length.

It's not FIA spec - it's a 2 part SFI spec inner with a softer outer layer. the total package looks the same size as the FIA padding that BSCI make.

Anyone interested?

It's got dents everywhere [:D]

I'm finding more out about the history of the car - very interesting. It was run for Honda by Richard Asquith for a number of years, both as a circuit racer and a group N rally car. Once I have got all the mechanical bits sorted to my satisfaction I might think about sorting the bodywork & maybe restoring the factory livery. Provenance is everything with competition cars isn't it? I wonder if anyone is interested in old Honda race cars?

I'm sure there are people out there who are, there are plenty of quite old cars still rallying Corrollas and Novas etc.
Use it enjoy it then restore it for Historic Events in 10 years time.

Sandy that stuff is not fia spec. It is just standard cage padding. It also wont help much without a helmet. Fia spec stuff is very different and is as firm as the plastics used in car interiors.

Ed,
I have checked with omp and it is FIA approved according to their 2010 catalogue.

It might be "FIA approved" but for what?

I'm talking about the stuff at the bottom of this page - you can see it refers to a specific FIA spec that I believe refers to areas of the cage that a helmet might hit. I think the soft stuff is probably FIA approved for other parts of the cage that arms/ legs might hit

A well, I am just going to use that for mine anyway, not going to spend £20 for half a meter of padding [:)]. That stuff looks like it might add too much weight to the car. [:)]
