seems I have pre welded plates for a roll cage. Thing is I would need to know what type to match the threaded holes in the plates. Does anyone have a cage in there car that has pieces that extend to the engine bay. the pieces connect to the cabin by three bolt holes. When i have a chance i will take some pic's. The plates are for a full cage not rear cage only.
I have looked at the heigo web page and there's don't look to match as far as I can tell. Thanks in advance, I hope.

If you have the original German Log Book FREIZADTHINNGY it will tell you what modifications were done to the car and should be very accurate in German Law.....so it won't be a Matter then? These were factory welded. Check the Kraut paperwork.......

Desmond my good fellow......a have no such points in my old sausage....you were seeing things.[8D]

Laurence from what I remember your remnance of a cage (the bits that extend to the engine bay) look to me like they were factory fit welded and painted at production. It would seem to me that your car was perhaps destined to be a superstar on track. Is there further evidence of a cage being fitted? i.e under the main carpet on the floors etc.

I'm sure you are intrigued to find out.

If factory should be on original spec available from OPC or factory and thus would have been a Matter Cage.....agree Lee would appear to be factory installed........

Lee,
The tubes are indeed welded to the engine bay "legs" and are body coloured. But at the bulkhead end of the tubes they have a flange and captive nut's, the cabin part of the cage is designed to bolt through the bulkhead and mate up with this flange. I doubt this was factory done(it's not mentioned on the datasticker and I have a build list from Porsche)and the factory cages are welded in at the bulkhead. More likely this was done later for someone who wanted to do club races or sprints. The original owner must have been minted to go for a colour to sample car in the first place, So paying to have the cage sprayed probably was'nt a prob. I have plates where you would expect to find them for a full cage A pillar B pillar and the bulkhead holes through to the tubes in the engine bay. I will try to take some pics today. Worst case is that I will have to have one fabbed up to match the plates if I decide to go this route.

quick update. I have been trawling my Porsche mags for roll cage pics (sad I know) nearest thing I have found which looks really very close to the fittings I have, is the Matter cage fitted to a 964 C4 RS(it even has body coloured bits in the engine bay and black in the cabin ) see march 2002 issue of 911 & PW i might scan a pic of it when I can be ar*ed.

Laurence, I understand Matter are no longer in business so getting something fabricated may be the only solution. Long way from you but I can recommend Dave Cooke Racing Services near York.(01347 878422) who build FIA spec cages for practically anything (works race/rally teams included) The built a custom cage for a previous 911 I had.

Tony

I'm not sure if they are /not still in business. I had heard that they went bust but started up under a different name. I will keep the york number in mind but it's a bit too north for me I think. Zub had a cage done by a chap near reading which is a bit nearer. I am not in any great hurry to do this anyway.
