Roll Cage

Can anyone send me web contacts for companies selling 964 roll cages?.

Thanks in advance

For "the best" you could try Heigo from Germany:

http://www.heigo.de/ASP/index.asp

Closer to home I know that Safety Devices will make one for you.

Or you could try DAS Sport roll bar from the US of A.
They do an easy bolt-in rear cage which can come in and out without any modifications to the car. Not sure about the level of protection they offer but they appear to be sanctioned for club racing over in the US

Let us know what you go for as this is next on my list....

good luck

give john hawkins at specialist cars of malton a call...he fitted a bolt in hiego half cage in my rs...no complaints whatever...!

Stephen - a bit rude to ask but rough how much did they charge?
Did you buy and import the cage yourself?
Did you have to wait long for the cage to be ready? I've heardthere is a 2 or 3 month wait for some Hiego cages.

thanks

Heigo make a specific cage for the 964 , and this is also specific to whether sun roof is fitted. You are best advised to get this ordered through the specialist that will fit it . For example in NW , both Tech9 and Ninemeister provide a service. I think Safety Devices went out of business a few years ago. FWIW I'd always fit a steel cage whether half or full , the alloy jobs are really for show. Assume you are going racing ?

Thanks to all for your replies - My car and I live in HK, track days are across the boarder in China, cannonball runs on Chinese highways are interesting to say the least!.

No reply from Heigo direct at the moment, though Gemballa here in HK have advised 3 months wait for the parts. I'm hoping to do it direct with a trip to germany and make it sooner but won't hold my breath.
Will also chase up the other links too, thanks.

oldtimer - It's track days only so was thinking the Alloy cage to keep weight down, provided it will offer protection for that one time event. I'm sure righting-off an alloy cage would mean the car would be worthless anyway, or if steel, that you'd not want to use it again anyway. Thoughts?.

kdean - have tried to add a picture but it won't accept, our cars sound similar. see previous owner; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4w0FqC5vTVg
Will let you know what I end up doing.

Thanks All!.

sorry for the delay in my reply...been away for a few days...the cage was about £980 plus the dreaded vat...john at specialist cars sourced the cage ...direct from germany I think..very little waiting time...give john a call !

That makes the Das bolt-in one sound very appealing @ a shade over £500 + Vat, shipping and a bit of import tax. It gets a good recommendation from some of the racing fanatics on Rennlist. Anyone for a group buy?[8D]

I'd definitely be up for a group buy. Count me in.

As you say it seems to get a decent write up and the thought of being able to install it and remove it without too much hassle (no drilling!) does sound appealing.
All I want is some extra peice of mind on trackdays should the worst happen.

They quoted me $350 to ship one to the UK.

So £750 ish (inc import tax) delivered to your door.

I'm sure we could get this down a bit if we got a few more orders.

If anyone else is interested, do have a look at the Das link above. The cage is nowhere as intrusive as a full cage. Nothing to climb over when getting in the car and looks easy to put in and take out yourself.

I haven't even changed the seats yet [&:] but I am definitely up for this if we can get a few of us interested. I'd be happy to get them delivered to my workplace and store until people can collect or to collect from whoever else takes delivery.

Have been away for a couple of weeks but pleased to see the thread alive and useful to others too.

I did manage to contact Heigo but not very helpful. I refered them to my email request for a quote plus shipping cost (in English AND German) and again have heard nothing from them. Room for Competition I think!!.

Following the thread though, I agree the DAS cage isn't very intrusive and nice not to add extra holes to the car, but...
Wouldn't the Heigo Cage, where you can remove the side bars when not on the track, be a much better product for esentially the same price?.. thoughts?

As much as I hate to say this, given Heigo haven't bothered to reply, i'm going to wait the 10 weeks required for them to produce one.
In the meantime I shall be drawing up a business proposal to start engineering them here in HongKong for export!!

another option if people have specific needs for a cage would be to try john rathbone racing. He's a metal fabricator who a few years back after the sucess of his own drag car started building chassis and frames for people, as well as some off the shelf exhaust components for VWs and things. Im not saying he will be interested, but if someone had a car they could leave with him he might be up for developing one.. he has a website somewhere but I cant be bothered looking for it right now as Im about to go out; google ought to bring it up... ..may work out cheaper, and the quality of his work is superb

Here's the link to Ben's idea.

http://www.jonrathboneracing.co.uk/

The site says they do bolt-ins which is what I would want personally so that I can return it to standard spec if ever needs be. I like the look of one of the 4 point, bolt in cages (picture 5) because it would offer some side impact protection. If we're going to have cages they might aswell be functional!

Are the 3* of us interested in asking for a ballpark quote for him to do 3? Mine's not a daily driver, so he could use mine as the template.

Not including Stapp because of being in HK.

FYI you should think carefully about anything other than a rear only cage for a car you want to use on the road. You will find it difficult getting insurance once you add side hoops and front hoop because they are very dangerous to your head if you are not wearing a helmet.

John is a mate of a guy I work with and while Ive never met him, I know of him and have seen his work.. don't be suprised if he is sporting a multi-coloured mohawk or similar if you go see him!..

He is a bit of a car nut, and his welding is art-work; I think he learnt his trade fabricating fuel tanks for jets or space ships or something crazy.. Don't be suprised if he's really busy though, I think he's getting more and more demand for spaceframes and things from the drag-racing community

Im thinking about going to him for a stainless exhaust system when Ive saved a few pennies; he makes some gorgeous systems for campers and beetles and things already, so would be interesting to see what he can come up with for the 964

A mate (Russ) near to me has a Heigo bolt in one. Some pics in this thread:
