Youve a number of options. Id suggest Safety Devices bolt-in from EMC (although Kev told me he wasnt stocking them any longer last Autumn) and a full or half bolt in from Rollcentre, depending which end of the scale youre looking at. If youre happy to tackle a larger welding job than a bolt in cage requires then there are some other suppliers too. Simon
 
Someone mentioned a GB from Rollcentre but I think that they ended up buying a product supplied by Peter (user name PJS917). This is not a rear cage in the conventional sense, it bolts into the car using seatbelt mounting points. Its quite minty, although it did appear to be nicely finished. I think that John Sims has one; so he might re-post his pictures. Simon

IMHO if you are serious about driving your car in situations where you think you might need a cage then get a full cage. The half cage is better than no cage but if you get T-boned then it wont offer you any more protection than you have already. If you really think you're going to roll the car then as I said, get a full one. You could go half and half... welded in rear and bolt on front ( easy to take out door bars when you're not on track etc.. ) Speak to RollCentre I'm sure it was one of there cages I saw in thsi configuration. I think you can still get an SD cage ( full bolt in ) from SD and then you need to find your local SD approved fitter. If you want a welded in cage then EMC will still do that for you. I understand that these things come down to personal choice but I wouldnt trust one of those "bolts to the seat belt points" contraptions as far as I could insert one where the sun don't shine.
 
If you know that youre going to crash, then you need a weld in cage: Id be speaking to EMC for that. Kevin offered me his last bolt in cage at a very (very) keen price, but other people have told me since that he has them in stock again, so Id suggest asking him directly. The RC cages are cheaper, but theyre not as secure: you pay youre money..........
 
I called EMC earlier this year and was told they were no longer selling bolt-in cages and advised me to contact Rollcentre if a bolt-in is what I wanted...
 
I was surprised to hear that Kev was still stocking them, after what hed told me... Im more surprised that he has recommended RC though, because he spent quarter of an hour showing me how superior the SD cages were to theirs (and they were). Simon
 
He definitely said he had some bolt ins when I was talking to him about it a couple of months back. As Lali said though this is a very slippery slope. Personally I don't like cars that are half hearted, either keep a car nice and road spec or make a proper track/race tool and that means welded in cage. I know others feel differently so as I said this is only MHO.
 
Surprised nobody has mentioned these. Right on your doorstep. Look great and good value from what I can see. So much so that I'm considering having one shipped out as they're so much cheaper than we pay for a custom cage in Sydney. CustomCages only offer multipoint weld-in cages, no bolt-ins... Demon-Thieves offer Sparco and CC IIRC. As the OP is considering a rear cage its reasonable to conclude that he is looking at bolt-in types only, so CC arent suitable and Sparco are prohibitively expensive at approaching £1,000.
 
Heigo do a bolt in cage for a 944 but it most likely wont fit a car with a sun roof. It uses the rear hoop arrangement similar to mine as the base structure and Heigo say this element wont fit in a 944 with a sun roof.

Well the OP didn't specify if they wanted bolt in or welded. I'm with Neil on this. Do it once, do it right but I get that this is probably the single most definitive line in the sand in regards to road registered / track cars. You don't want to be driving with a cage everyday so it is a big decision. Our road rules are getting more and more Police regulated that it's hard to enjoy having a nice car now. They're about to bring in a law here that if you get done for 2 speeding offences, you loose your licence. Yet they never actually discuss improving driver training as a matter of course. It's all just revenue and control. So I am about to turn my car into a track tool and will quite possibly go for one of these Custom Cages. They look very good from what I can see. Any opinions on them?
 
Another thing to consider is some insurers don't like cages and will either load your premium or not insure you. I assume it is because they think you feel safe you are more likely to have an accident.
 
Very true John, I ended up having to get competition car insurance for mine, similar to a rally car. Doubled my premiums but it may come back down again in the future, but then its a toss up really as to if I keep the car on the road. Vast majority of the insurers I asked wouldn't touch it, I guess one worry is that you might crash in a race and then claim latter that you had a prang on the road. Some of the cars in the PCGB championship are using the Custom Cages cage, its massively engineered compared to the Safety Devices design, and ISTR is around 10 to 15 Kg heavier. From memory at least one of the front running 968's had this cage. It looks good, very much along the lines of a touring car cage.
 
I see that it's also available in 'T45' whatever that is? Titanium? Meant to be a lot lighter but who knows how much more expensive. I sent them an email but they may not be bothered replying to me down here. If anyone else is making enquiries with them I'd be thankful if the info is shared. Cheers
 
IIRC the CustomCages product does come fully notched, but even so; its still a big job to fit. If the OP is prepared to consider a weld-in cage, or if he needs a multi-point type, then Id recommend CC. They also allow you to buy only the elements that you require.
