Rolling Road Session at Bob Watson Engineering

The sun is out, and now that Simon Dixon has retrieved Stella from French custody, he's keen to get together with like minded 930 owners at Bob Watson's so that some factual Top Trumps can be indulged in.
For those who don't think that this is their thing, it's worth going along for three reasons:
1) it's in a very pleasant part of the country (Middle Aston) to run out to and explore:
2) if you've not seen (or heard) a tuned 930 on a rolling road, it's an experience worth having;
3) to see the bewildered looks of owners whose numbers don't seem to stack up in comparison to the outlay!

Weather permitting, this should be a fun day out, and I'll leave it to Simon and Bob to liaise and organise via this Forum.
For those of you who think that their other halves won't go along with idea, it's worth noting that Bicester Village Outlet is 20 mins drive away - in theory you could safely leave partner there (with credit card!) and collect later.
Thanks again Simon,
John

Thanks John.

Bob and his team are very keen to arrange something - they have said they will lay on "refreshments" in the form of bacon sarnies and coffee with trophies to reward owners cars producing the numbers on the day.

The team anticipate they could cope with about 3 cars an hour, so plan on covering 8-10 cars. They have confirmed spectators are more than welcome.

I need to firm up details with Bob, but before looking at dates in the next couple of months I should be grateful to know who may be interested. Please post a reply confirming your interest and car details.

all the best Simon

Hi Simon

When are you thinking, my car is at Bob's as I wright, service and noise from transmission when you power on and off even lightly!
must phone him in fact will do it right now

Hi Simon

I'd be interested too depending on when it is. My car is completely stock so could be a good benchmark for the modified bunch.

My car is serviced at Hartech but I keep thinking about giving Bob a visit to make sure it is set up right and all is working as it should.

Kev - yours must be the beautiful black 930LE that was there the other week... Will ping Bob an email to see when may suit him. Taking mine to the "ring" at the end of May so hopefully we can do before then, and am sure yours will be sorted soon.

Craig - thanks for the interest. In my experience I have come to never underestimate a good stock car...there are plenty of examples where "modified" cars produce less than stock - seems Porsche may know a thing or two about engineering!

Will get some dates and post them on the forum.

Hi Simon

Yes that is mine, the last time I let Bob put it on his rolling road was 4th October 1997 (I stiil have the print out, a disapointing 227.5 KW = 307 H.P.) on a turbo guy's day out can't belive that was nearly 15 years ago!
shame I didn't take any photo's

I wonder if any of the other guy's still have their car's?

As I stated mine is having a service at Bob's and that noise from transmission when you power on and off, 1st I thought it was a CV type of noise but put it on a ramp on an open day at PC Guildford but both ok and then thought clutch but I put a clutch in it at 32,000 miles and now it's done 54ish so we will see! any other guy's know how long their clutches have lasted!
I have also asked Bob to remove the gear knob as the leather has split, need to get the brass insert gold plated as the existing plating has worn and Southbound said they would recover, I have seen a few other LE and SE's gone the same way!

I turbo meetup will be good, its been a good few years since the last one

OK - chosen date is Saturday 12th May. Cost will be confirmed, but will not be prohibitive (certainly less than a tank of fuel!). Team are hopeful to get Porsche Club involved and are testing interest with a couple of well known Porsche magazines.

Space is for 10 cars on first come first served basis. Please log your interest by posting details on the thread, or ping me an email.

Hi

Is this for 930s only at this stage? If there are any spare places available, even at short notice, I would love to come and have a look (and get my car on the dyno).

Regards

930s only for time being....... if the places aren't taken up, then you are first on the non 930 reserve list!

Hi Simon

Make me No. 2 1989 930 LE.
I might leave my car there until the 12th then to save another trip to Middle Aston, I was hoping to have it back for the 911 and Porsche World meet on the 16th of this month at the Blue Ball Public House, Walton on the Hill, my local, Will have to walk there instead!
Anyone going to Bob's from Surrey area as a lift would help me out and save the Mrs S a boring day out!

Kev

That is great thanks

Hi Simon, I can't make that date so I'll to give it a miss on this occasion. Shame, I'll look forward to the report.

Craig

Seems that Bob and the team are now having problems with the 12th, so we are going to have to set another date. As I am going to the "ring" at the end of May, it looks as thought it may be sometime in June.

Will post another date; and in the meantime thanks for your interest.

best Simon

I have arranged a similar day later in the year for Modified Register and 964RS Register date to be confirmed early October.

Carreraboy,

Keep us updated and perhaps easiestwill be to do a combined Porsche day in October. Happy to just come and watch or give the 930 a good thrashing ...

S.

John, I have heard today from someone trying to get hold of BW today, that the phones are not being answered and the place is locked up. Any ideas what's going on?
