Hi soil I can't. Would also like to get mine on some. Good to hear your back on the road however I did miss what was your final results with the hg. My van rad split yesterday resulting in engine turning off and a toe home just days b4 tax and mot are due. :/

Not London I`m afraid but I can highly recommend Northampton motorsport - definitely worth the drive - they tune serious cars (properly) You will get a truly professional session. They also do corner weighting and geometry.

Hi Soli My car was first dyno'd at Power Engineering in Uxbridge but the most important thing is depending on what you want and who does the tuning d.. for me there is only one guy to go too if your talking about major modifications to the car and that's Wayne Scofield at 'Chip Wizards' but he's based in Rochdale. When he first did my car (he's tuned it a number of times now) he came down to me and hired testing time at Power Engineering. It just happened that at the time I had mine done he had a 911 race car to deliver to Brands Hatch for that weekend's Porsche cup meet but I doubt he does this type of thing today. I rate him highly and once my car is back on the road I will be driving up to see him again, I have to say it may be a long way but boy is it a great drive on the return journey once he's played with the car. Now having said all that it also depends on what you want, if the car is standard and you just want a tune up with a few extra horses to play around with then most rolling roads should be able to do that for you, if however you plan major mods and you don't want to blow the engine go and see Wayne. Pete

Hi all
Can anyone recommend a good place to do a rolling road test and engine tuning in London for my 944 Turbo?
Thanks
Soli

hg obviously was blown but so was the cylinder head. cracked in pressure test. got that all sorted. also had to replace the power steering pressure hose as it all of a sudden dropped all the oil but that was minor. fixed the horn on my own. got an electrician to run a new wire for the sun roof which works nicely now. going to Centre of Gravity in September to set the suspension properly and align the wheels. still have a slight delay when i press the gas down and i think the car eats too much petrol so i thought a rolling road test can help me figure this out. i am not gearing up for a high performance modified car. just want it tuned properly.

Surrey Rolling Road may be worth a shout. They work more on Boxsters but they seemed to be a decent bunch of guys to deal with when the 944 crew met up. Failing that a specialist may be able to see the issue quickly with why you have a 'delay'. I'd agree that Northampton Motorsport are worth a shout, but I would still go to Centre Gravity for a road car who can get the car setup just how you want it going by what others have said.:). Bear in mind my car when you drove it was more responsive due to the upgrades it had (chip, exhaust lacking silencers (possibly also the smaller bore banjo bolt which imitates a boost enhancer to a degree etc.). If that is the response you want then it could be the start of a slippery slope (and one I am trying to avoid myself!). A friend of mine (on another forum) with a stock 220 like yours fitted some chips with a boost enhancer and commented on just how different the car felt. To quote:
Wow that £100 piece of pipe with a spring and poppette have just made my car quite a lot more exciting! I know exactly why Porsche made the boost build so progressively... there is now distinct danger of spinning her on a roundabout if I don't moderate my style a bit! Fun times.
How much petrol is too much petrol and for what sort of driving?

Depending on timing, I may want to get my car on the rolling road also. Not sure how many others based in/around london would be up for making a day of this. I have no idea what my car is running but would be good to meet others.... I'm not in any hurry though as I'm weighing up changing the turbo at some stage. Hopefully this summer.

Wayne Schofield is now working out of NineMeister in Warrington. He did my 944 Silver Rose earlier this yeR and I can honestly say I've never met anyone who knows how to live map a car on a rolling road any better than Wayne [:)] His attention to detail is awesome

What sort off mpg you getting now? I used to get 31 others didn't get as much. Now I can wacth the needle move and get around 20/25 25 is driving the same way I use to get 31. Or so I think. Be quite hard to have someone pin point an issue like your rich. There probley a little rich from factory like most cars. Which is why they gain so well from increasing the boost with a enchaner. You could do a long ish drive stay at 80 don't drive in and out off boost but don't hold back that's how I use to see 31 where's most seem to get 28. Spool up wise it will be later in the lower gears then 5th. Will be around 3k for a stock set up on 26/6 turbo. Even a cone filter can improve spool. But a maf/map will by around 400 rpm which is around 10mph in 5th Also these cars get talked up. Wheel spin and kick out and hard boost. there must be something wrong with mine as iv never felt it like that. However if you put the full power down on the return from the corner then off course your gona get a shock. Not every dyno is the same and it may read 210 but another read 225

Ahh.. thanks for the info...... is he still using the same mobil number? I will need to get the car sorted by him before pressing the loud pedal too far...:) Pete

ORIGINAL: soli much petrol is about 1ltr for 7 km
Without trying to be funny but if that is town driving around London with the engine idling I would say that is around right (I calculate it is being 29p/mile roughly speaking or 20MPG if my maths is not too horrific working on petrol being £1.30 a litre). Christ, my mate's Passat 2.0 PD TDI DSG was doing low 30s MPG around town with me feathering the throttle! My 944 is not that different around town and when I am putting my foot down. A chap with a 306 GTi-6 consumes that amount of petrol in town as well (although he does drive it as if he stole the car). On a motorway cruise like many it does then do around 30MPG even with the odd blast in the journey. My S2 (and others) were better but even that was around 22-24MPG around town (like other larger engined cars I have owned). The only large engined exception to the rule I have owned was a Volvo 740 2.3i Auto. That did high 20s around town and 38MPG on a motorway. It was also the slowest out of the big engined cars...

I think it's a bit less, about 46 litters for 174 miles. But nice to know it's not too bad :). In any case I think I need to do the rolling road to figure out the hesitation. It wasn't there before. Just showed up one day. Could b just vacuum problem though...

Agreed - he worked his magic on my car last year runs superbly and puts out a reasonable amount of power ! [;)] Would also agree about the worth of a basic boost enhancer - £100 very well spent. Every turbo should have one fitted if nothing else....that was the first mod I made to my original car but of course once you start its very hard to stop ![:)][&o]

I don't intend to do any mods. Just what to make sure everything is tuned and works properly. Like u say if I start I won't stop lol

Very wise ! [:D] (they all say that at the beginning but no one can resist the dark side forever...[;)])

19.3 mpg your getting. What iv noticed with running augtronic ecu and data display is that once the boost needle is close to middle 1bar fueling will richen up. Even from 1/4 below the middle mark. I had Tom adjusted this out b4 and will do again, makes driving up hill Easyer as you allerator pedal movement needs to be very minimal to keep afr at 14.7 rather then 12.5 when entering boost. Without making any noticeable power I could very well be driving around with afr of 12.5. I would expect the relationship and behaviour to be very much the same with a stock set up. Try and drive keeping the boost needle closer to 0.4 mark on cruze and see if it help mpg.

Possable. Just did 9 /175 Is that a mixture off town driving or motorway? There is some documention about the shift points and and under rev the cars. Be intersted to hear more on the hestation your getting. What rpm what gear. Wheres the boost needle of it at the same point Could be your tps isn't quite in the right place. Tps is throttle position switch. It's the black box on the left side off the trottle body with the engine off you should hear a click as soon as you move the throttle cable and butterfly. If its not clicking you need to adjust its position till it does. It's adjustment is so fine a little turn on the cable will stop it from closing and letting the ecu know.
