Roof and Extended Warranty

I lowered my 2005 987 roof for the first time this seaon last week, and I heard a crunching sound which sounded like something breaking.

Indeed it had, because I was then unable to raise it electrically; it had to be manually raised. I was told by my OPC that two small rods / ball joints costing only about £26 each were broken and needed replacing. An hour's labour brings the total cost to around £150 for the fix, and in the meantime I can't enjoy the sunshine (rain??) until next week sometime.

I was advised that the parts are not covered by my extended warranty, altough they would be covered by the standard 2 year warranty. I am a bit disappointed by that as the warrant booklet refers to electric motors for the roof, I guess that they are "wear and tear" items despite the fact that my car has only done 9500 mles and I try and keep it in pristine condition. No one has been sleeping on the roof, not even a cat!

Any thoughts on my interpretation welcome.

Thanks in advance.

I'd get back there and tell them to think again. []

Bearings, discs, clutch, break pads and wiper blades are "wear and tear" items.

i'd get on to porsche customer services at reading and have a polite conversation with them ,if all else fails shout at them.. :)
whilst i was at opc i'm sure we replaced them under extended unless they've been tight and revised them..
or ask the service advisor at your local opc to put a goodwill claim in for them,, porsche know they break quite frequently from old to new

I'd ask teh OPC to submit the waranty claim anyway - you and they have nothing to lose.

£150 for the ability to lower the roof during the current weather sounds OK to me - don't forget 10% off the parts - £5 better in your pocket than theirs !!

Thanks for your thoughts; I will take up your advice.

What's makes it more difficult and could be influencing what I am being told, is that I live in Guernsey and the local Porsche dealership lost the local franchise in January; all warranty claims, warranty work and Porsche approved sign off for service etc. now has to go to Jersey, which makes things a bit trickier.

I had a very problematic experience with this "arrangement" earlier this year when my car had to be shipped to Jersey for some warranty repairs, but that's another long story which still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
