Has anyone purchased such a thing for their 996. Thinking about touring France with the kids in tow and thought perhaps a roof box might do the trick? Any views on cost, availability and usefulness?

Thanks

they pop up on bay now and again bars are expensive but any box should bolt on these the set new from porsche is over 1K i think

Not sure I'd risk 160 with wife on board never mind the roof box. Still I probably wouldn't hear it falling off over the wife's screams! Will have a look on Ebay, thanks

another option just remembered last time i was in my local OPC they were renting these i think no idea how much but may be worth a ring

How many kids can you fit in a roofbox? :)

Have you thought about hiring a box? There are not many companies offering it, but if you are driving to the Channel ports en-route, you could try this company in Crawley, near Gatwick

Roofbox2Hire . I'm not sure whether they cater for 996's but they do quote for series 900 Porsches for sales of roof bars.

I bought a genuine box and roof bars off ebay, took ages to find them and bought them seperately, the bars are really good, fit easily and are good quality. The box is ok,nothing special,it's a nice shape and has Porsche on it but is no better than any other boxes,I wouldn't pay daft money for one coz it's not worth it .The bars,I think, are the same as the 997,so should be readily available.I would recommend the bars, although I couldn't find any alternatives anyway, and rent a box.

Thanks chaps, the hire website looks promising and I must admit have given up looking on Ebay as keep getting bogged down with Cayenne offers... Cheers

PS Was thinking about the wife in the box and the kids in the car!!!! :))))

"Forget have you thought about hiring a box, Have you thought about hiring a car"?.

Thats going to be one serious uncomfortable holiday for all.

+ a 911 with a roof box id sooner be seen in a Renault or possibly even a Citroen.

I know what you mean, plenty of room in the car for the wife and kids in the back. Its just we can only pack an overnight bag in the luggage compartment!
