Roof care

I apologise if this has been recently covered, but would appreciate your experience of products for cleaning and protecting the convertible roof on our boxsters. I got my 2000 S a few months ago, and have noticed that when it rains the water soaks into the roof rather than beading, as with waxed body work. Someone has recommended scotch guard spray to protect the roof, which sounds like a sensible option, but I was unsure of the best cleaning method prior to application. Have any of you had good (or bad) experience with products??

Many thanks in advance for your suggestions, Nick

Halfords do a scotchguard sprey for (approx)£8 which im told is easy to use and very good.

make sure you cover the windows and rubber seals as it will stain

I think you may find Renovo Ultra-Proofer easier to use as it can be 'painted' on with a 2" paint brush & this then avoids the overspray you get with aerosols.
They also make a specialist hood cleaner for fabric hoods. Both products are available via their website http://www.renovointernational.com/

I've used the Autoglym roof treatment set - not cheap at £20+, but it cleans and re-proofs the roof & leaves it looking like new (and the water beads!)

I think Porsche also do a hood cleaner/proofer - ask you OPC (won't be cheap though!)

I have both the Autoglym kit and the Porsche waterproofer (as part of the car cleaning kit). The Autoglym one is a (non-propellent) spray, the Porsche one is an aerosol (looks like hairspray). I prefer the Autoglym one.

Thanks for your suggestions. I think I will give the Autoglym cleaner/protector a go, as I have good experience with their other products for quite a while now and hence trust them more. Now just have to find the time to get down to it and hope that Halfords or somewhere else actually sells the stuff!

Nick

I had the Wax Wizard do my car, and he's a genius when it comes to car cleaning!

For the roof he used a basic Scotch guard (B&Q do one for out door canopies)

The wax wizard can be contacted through Boxa.net if you do need information follow this thread http://forum.boxa.net/index.php?s=8ae3378e4975177d7f73633f5f2c51ca&showforum=19 there are also topics about Hood proofing on there!

Used the Autoglym combo kit of cleaner/protector in the early summer with good results. Water still beading off in Nov when Hard-top went on. Recommended + yes, avail from Halfords. Good luck!

im going to try to get the Wax Wizard to come along to one of my club nights. as he really does seem to know his stuff when it comes to cleaning.
