Roof gutter trims

ORIGINAL: Monkeythree

Metal. Some sort of aluminium alloy. They are quite flimsy though.
Unless it's an early square dash & they are some kind of plastic/fibreglass.

if you are going to replace the rubbers, pull the old ones out first so you can see and release the clips, push them downwards with a flat blade screwdriver or even better if you have a flat plastic trim tool.

Thanks for that I will give the body shop the heads up. they rubbed the paint off them with a porter cable and I now want them repainted, I have asked them to remove them, paint them and leave them in the boot of the car for me to refit.

I would order new rubber seals from Porsche. They perish with age so it would make sense to fit new ones whilst the trims are off. Just be careful to fit them the right way up. They are very fine and it's difficult to see the correct orientation and they will fit into the groove in the trim upside down.

Did mine last summer, left about an inch of excess out at either end then trimmed them back after a month or so knowing they had settled.

Body shop are reluctant to removing them in case they damage them, you would like to think a body shop would be capable of removing them without doing so.

I removed mine by hand. Started at the back above the rear quarter window, got my fingernails behind the trim & eased it all the way along a until I was able to get my fingertips in & remove it completely. They are fairly robust/strong parts, you could always use a plastic trim tool to help ease them off. Just be careful not to damage the paintwork on the roof.

I left the ends long and and tucked them under because I thought it would look smarter than just chopping them off (how they were originally) - even so they were way too long so I had to cut some off.

Cheers for that Jim it will be really useful, they are just removing them and repainting them after taking paint of the edges with a porter cable. I think I will refit them that way I know they have not been bodged, I like the tucked under look, its much better imho.
