Roof rack or Tow bar

Please don't burn me at the stake for asking this but can you fit either a roof rack or a tow bar to a 968?

I ask because i rather fancy one as my daily driver but would love to be able to take it with me when I go mountain biking.

I normally take with me;

2 downhill bikes
2 bags of kit
2 helmets
Box of Tools
Potable jet washer (if its going to be muddy)

Given how muddy the bikes get I'm not sure I'd want them in the car. And some of the places I go bike have awesome driving roads.

Never seen a tow bar on a 968, they are available for a 944 but obviously the back's very different. Roof racks are hard to find used, but if you've got the four bolts inside the hatch then they will fit. Top corner of the bodywork inside the hatch when it's raised, about 2 inches apart in a pair on each side.

As above realy.
Never seen a 968 with a tow bar.
They can be fitted with a roof rack, but there are like hens teeth to get. Last one i spotted , used, was around £100...

Your right Paul I had a talk with a Porsche Indy and Porsche do in fact make a tow bar part number 968.722.901.00 a cool £894.00 [8D] I think the Watling tow bar is the better choice then!

When I rang OPC west London they said the roof rack is no longer available.

Hasn't been for a long time, but they do occasionally pop up on e-bay. Worth buying if one pops up, but the towbar option for a few hundred might be best. Do search around, though - I only looked at the first one!

Plastic sheet down isn't a problem. You can fit all of that in (wheels off both bikes), although not sure on the portable jet washer. I guess it depends how big that is. If I remember I'll post up some pictures later.

I have a brand new 968 OE Porsche Roof rack which I could be persuaded to let go as I need a new flywheel! :O(
