Roof rail paint bubbling - not under warranty?

Hi folks
I have a late 2004 997S which is under extended warranty and about a year ago (just while it was in original warranty) I noticed the driver side roof rail had paint bubbling up at the front of the rail. Mentioned it to OPC while being serviced and it was duly replaced under warranty, no problems. I did inspect the other rail at the same time, and it was fine.
Washing the car last week and saw that the nearside roof rail has exactly the same problem, in the same place!
When it was in for annual service (I have it carried out every year regardless) I pointed it out to the technicians for replacement, but was told that despite having extended warranty, the roof rail was classed as 'trim' and not covered by the paint warranty or the extended warranty.
Obviously I'm a bit peeved at this [:'(]- has anyone else had similar problems or claims and did they have theirs replaced either in or out of warranty?
Thanks!
Rob

Rob, sorry to hear of you problems. I've not seen any paint bubbling anywhere on mine but something I will definitely keep a look out for now that mine is into its second year.

Hi Allan
Yes, I am sure I have heard that this was a problem on some early cars, but cannot pin down actual cars or resolutions.
It's certainly worth keeping an eye out for, especially when the end of the factory warranty looms close.
I shall be writing to PCGB to see if they are prepared to look upon this as a 'goodwill' issue as I do look after the car (servicing annually not just every 2yrs as prescribed etc) and am a little cheesed off the OPC was so unsympathetic.
I hope yours is going well and the headlamp conversion procedure is now down to a smooth art![;)]

Having read this thread I have thoroughly checked my 2.5yr old example and can find no sign of a similar problem.

Dont put up with it, go to the small claims court.....here is an example of a successful claim made by JonnyDangerous on Pistonheads:-

'I felt the need to share the final outcome of my battle with Porsche GB to fix the rust problem caused by my kick plates.

In summary, rust was appearing along the edges of the kick plates on my 02 C4S. I claimed on the warranty but Porsche denied the claim saying the rust was caused by an external influence, the external influence being the kick plates!

I followed the fantastic advice received here (thanks Lurking Lawyer, Try5T, Karnivor, Los Angeles to name a few) and sent a letter to Porsche GB saying I'd be taking legal action if the problem wasn't resolved in 14 days. Porsche GB then contacted me and told me that their decision still stood.

So, I had little choice but to go the small claims court route. Do not ever be put of going down this route. You can do it all online. All you need do enter your details, the details of who you are claiming against and a short description (maximum 1000 characters if I remember correctly). Lastly, you enter the amount you're claiming. This amount then calculates the costs to proceed. In my case I was claiming ~£900 so had a filing fee of £80.

Within 7 days of filing, Porsche GB responded saying they intended to defend the full amount. This bought them another 28 days to submit a full defence. On the penultimate day, Porsche GB contacted me and settled in full "" agreeing to pay for all the work to be done. Result!!

When I dropped the car off I asked Porsche GB to quote me to re-spray another panel that had a nasty scratch. "We'll take of that for you as well sir "" no problem" came the reply'

Hi Rod
Wow, what a result! It's nice to hear of instances where stubborn intransigence is overcome - at the end of the day it's only commonsense in action eh? Well done for standing up for your rights (and winning!).[:D]
Unfortunately here in the C.Isles we do not have small claims courts, so I am looking for evidence of previous resolutions so I can present a case to PCGB. If I was to pursue it legally it would cost many times the amount to have it sprayed, so am reluctant to do that.
Thanks for the comments chaps, please keep them coming!!

Sorry to dissapoint but it was a guy called 'JonnyDangerous' on Pistonheads that made the claim...he should get all the kudos[;)]
It goes to show that no-one has to put up with silly excuses from Porsche when it comes time for them to pay-out!

Rob, sorry to hear you don't have access to the small claims courts...that's so unfair....good luck anyway!

Hey Chris, sorry to hear about you son...blimey they must have walked over the whole car...animals...mine is getting resprayed as we speak at Karl's local paint shop, fingers crossed it turns out well...I'll keep you in touch in case your son wants to go there....they were very reasonably priced![:)]

A number of years ago I bought a BMW duty free and brand new from BMW Park Lane. At the first service in Brussels the dealership asked me when I'd crashed the car. I queried why they assumed it had been crashed and they showed me a repair and re-spray on one wing. I got an official letter from them and contacted BMW GB who prevaricated for a couple of months arguing about giving me a few hundred pounds and then agreed to replace the car when I re-imported it after 6 months out of teh UK. 2 weeks before I was due to return they reneged on the deal. Cue threatened legal proceedings. They replaced the car with a new one (mine had over 6k miles by then) and paid all the taxes (3.5k odd). Have never bought another car new since then and will never trust the main dealers. Well done on the paint recovery.
