Roof squeak

Hi Mark, enjoyed your columns in PP - are you doing any more?

I have to admit I don't seem to suffer from this, Mine only squeaks for a couple of minutes after putting the roof up - so maybe I'm not the person to answer!
However, I recall that a product called Gummi-Pflege was often recommended for this problem.
You used to be able to get it from BMW dealers, part numbers were
[FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica"][FONT=verdana, arial, helvetica"] 60ml tube 82 14 9 407 015
300ml can 82 14 9 400 195
However BMW have made it a "Service item only" (You can't buy it - but they can use it... [&:])

Good grief - I've just found a website on how to use it(!) [:D] --> HERE <--

Maybe someone will be able to post on how to get hold of this useful stuff now??? (Anyone?)

Before trying this though, are you thoroughly drying all the mating surfaces of roof to screen toprail after washing the car? Also in-between all the little folds in the rubber at the front of the roof, etc? Any grit/dirt here might be causing the noise.

After just a year or so my roof started to squeak (when up). My OPC cures the problem for a couple of months (using "teflon tape"), but it soon returns.

Any suggestions?

Mark.

my 2004 Boxster S suffered the very same and the OPC "fixed" it 5 times in the end the stitches started splitting so they have replaced the whole roof (under warrenty) and this seems to have fixed the problem.

Autoglym do a rubber care product that can ease the squeaking if applied to the rubber bits on the roof.. put hood down but stop half way so you have the flap the hood gets put away behind and you can get to the rubber bits.. Sorry for the non techie speak!

Mark - you need to drive smoothly so as to avoid the flexing movement that causes the squeak - on the approach to a bend, brake progressively but forcefully then.....

Sorry! - couldn't resist it! [:D]
