Roof stuck

Bit of an odd one. My 2000 2.7 boxster is having a little roof problem. I can lower the roof fine (it's only 1/4 down at the mo - ie the back part is up), but now it won't close. Pressing the button on the dash dowsn't do anything. I've already searched the forum, and my handbrake light is on.
The one light that isn't on though is the light telling you that the roof is not completely up/down. Any ideas? I get the feling that it's a sensor somewhere and the car thinks the roof is already comppletly closed. Luckily the roof hasn't start to retract so i can still close it, but the back compartment lid is up right now.

Try poking the microswitch in the windscreen header rail (where the roof latches) with your finger a few times - it might be stuck so the car "thinks" the roof is closed.
 
I had a similar problem with my roof. There is a handbrake sensor that had failed. It thought the handbrake was off (it wasn't) and that stopped the roof operation. By coincidence it happened a couple of days before the annual service, and the OPC fixed it for a fairly nominal charge. Can't remember whether it was stopping the hood being raised or closed, in my case.

Mike, I agree with Mark. The first thing that you should look at is the microswitch aboce the rear view mirrior at the latch. BUT ...... My friend's Boxster did this while out on a Porsche day out. It was stuck in the half up position. He had lots of "Porsche experts " there to help and in the end he removed the relay (located on the right hand side footwell) with the ignition key removed and then he replaced it. When he tuned on the ignition again.. it worked! We don't now why it worked but it has never failed since. A bit of a long shot but give it a try if you still have the problem. When you do get it sorted please let us all know what the cause was.
 
There is also the possibility one of the cables that goes from the motor at the back to the roof mechanism has broken. I had one go last year on my 2000 2.7. The motor still turned on mine but the cable end was very frayed in the motor unit and I guess it could jam the motor if it's given the chance. The consequence would be a blown fuse in this situation I guess.
