my cars going in to OPC Solihull on thursday for the third time as they can't seem to stop the fabric bulging out over the bracket above the drivers door.
they had my car all day last friday and have seemed to have cured the cross wind rattle. so i live in hope.

[:D][:D] hhaa so thats where i left it [:-]

Seriously though, I spend all my pennies on my cars. I don't buy clothes, shoes, jewellry, holidays or any other luxury items you may care to mention.. This is my hobby, my obsession, my life..........sad I know but im very happy with it.[8D]

And so you should be - it's your life after all![:)]

PS.. A spellchecker isn't a luxury item.[;)]

JCB..

Just had a bit of felt covered plastic fall out of my roof in that very place! Roof still closes but bad show when the car is only 2200 miles old

I really thought they'd got these roof problems sussed. I've had no problems with mine since it went in to sort the flappy noise (technical eh! [;)] )

Third time lucky Helen!

they seem to have solved the flappy noise.

just need them to get the thing to close with the fabric inside the brackets over the drivers door instead of outside it.[]

I saw this exact problem on a 911 convertible the other day, fabric outside of the plastic frame on both sides of the car. As it was on both sides I thought it was normal but looked really shoddy for such an expensive car. I wonder has the owner even noticed.

I've had soft-top problems of my own - the hood warning light wasn't staying on while the top goes up or down, it blips on briefly at the end of cycle though. Also when the top is coming up, it doesn't drop the windows at the start of the cycle and only drops them when I jiggle with the hood as it meets the windscreen, I had to do this as it wasn't closing flush into the slots any more. Two 1/2 day visits to the OPC and still no joy, they gave it back and said they'd need to take it for a few days , however whatever mucking around they did last time seems to have sorted it, eventhough when they handed it back they still reckoned it wasn't fixed yet. I must get around to telling them this, although it has to go back anyway to replace the door seals that seem to be causing a lot of squeaking and some part of the driver's window mechanism, in order to do away with the sound of glass hitting metal as the window hits its lowest point.
Porsche build quality - I'm beginning to wonder about it. I've now made more visits to the Porsche dealer in 6 months than I made in 3 years to a Fiat dealer in the past :).

took the Boxster in on tuesday (3rd may) for the third attempt at solving this problem.. been using it every day since and happy to report that so far its working purfectly..so fingers crossed.

Helen, had the same problem with the hood. Took it to OPC and they said that they had seen this problem before. I was at OPC because of a problem with my radio; now appears to be the amplifier but don't really think that they know and mentioned the roof problem. OPC said they would make an adjustmnet when they fitted the new amplifier but I've been waiting for it since Christmas, Sod's law though! First time I had the roof down after the OPC visit the roof closed OK and has done so on several occasions since. I think it's something to do with whether the hood is warm or cold. Cold seems to work better.

Just started to get crosswind rattles. How did they fix this?

to solve the flappy crosswind rattle the OPC said they had to tighten something up. but, others who have had the same fault have told be that they just put some more padding in between the rofs material layers..

what ever they did it seems to have worked.

to solve the fabric folding over the bracket..they have to tighten the guide wire which you can see if you half open the roof and look down into the gap behind the door piller/roof

(about 8 weeks later)
roofs started closing with the fabric outside the bracket again [] popped into opc and they very kindly had another go there and then. they admit theres nothing more they can do. they also noticed(which i hadn't) that the stitching is coming undone along the seam..so have suggested it needs a new roof. [&o] thank-goodness its under warrenty

I have the same problem. Roof coming out over the bracket and wind noise at speed.

Unfortunately the OPC in Ireland has told me I need a new roof too. The say that the boding cables need to be replaced - but when they tried they discovered the channel for the cable was pinched. No record of the roof ever being worked by anybody since new - but they say it must have been tampered with at some stage.

One this that is noticable though is that the whole fabric alignment is wrong on the passenger side. at the rear of the window the fabric is about an inch short of the rubber - compared to the otherside which is flush..

The quote I got for the roof was 2300 euro fitted. []

Nope...

We only have one OPC in Ireland. The car wasnt bought from them - and it was imported from scotland by its one owner when he moved here.

They say it was damaged by someone messing with it - but then again (trying not to be slanderous here) the place would have a reputation for throwing parts at a car rather than trying to figure out whats wrong with it.

I also have a problem where the clock is flashing when I open the door after the car has been parked up - or if I put in the key in the morning. I know its a bad earth causing the problem, but the recommended solution was to spend over 1000 euro on a new binacle. Now if its an earth problem that wont fix it and someone is a grand down.

The litany is even better - the garage I bought it from got it serviced there and it came back 3 days late with tools in the engine bay and in the boot. It went elsewhere for a service before I bought it needless to say. And on top of that, when it was in 2 weeks ago for the RMS issue, it came back with a screw dent in the rear deck where someone has put too long a screw into it and it come UP through the metal work.

Such a pity really...

[] think i'd be on a ferry over to the uk for my servicing.

there must be a good independant in ireland have you asked the irish porsche club for advice?
