I know( I've used the search engine) the shell numbers thing has been done to death on here but here goes...

Ive checked the numbers i know about engine lid, bonnet and parcel shelf all connecting to the first number on the sticker under the bonnet.
My question is more about the other numbers in the doors and behind the bumper can anyone tell me exactly were the doors are stamped and is it easy to get too or do the door cards need to come out? same goes for the bumper.
Also are there any more stamped parts on the body ,wing or rear quarters ect...If these parts ain't stamped what are the tell tale signs its had a new panel or not?

Pretty sure doors aren't stamped - you might find a crayoned number showing through the paint, but on the inside of the door skin behind the trim and the plastic membrane (which should be intact). Again don't think bumpers are stamped either. If you want to get really anal, quite a lot of cast or molded parts have a manufacture date cast in - if this is after the registration date it's probably been replaced - but you could waste a lot of good driving time looking!
Best thing get a specialist to look at it. But in all honesty if the fit's good, and it's not been resprayed does it matter?

Thanks Tony[;)] I didn't mean the bumper (plastics) i meant the front of the shell behind the bumper.

To be honest it doesn't really matter, I'm just getting a bit beardy, but it would be nice to know what I'm talking about for a change[:D]

I found a date written on the inside of my rear bumper a couple of years back. This kind of ties in with the 'end build' date of my car which was 05-08-91

Yet another nugget of useless info. [:D]
