Can anybody help me with recommendations for getting an RS insured? Will be doing 3-4000 miles a year and 3-4 trackdays.

Will be getting my car in a week or two I hope.

Thanks

David,
My car is insured with Hagerty who are based at Silverstone Innovation Centre. I have recommended them to several other 964/964RS owners who have all saved on their premium.

The policy is good although I've never needed to claim. My car is insured for 5k miles per year, £350 excess, garaged overnight in Glos, modified (chipped, rollcage, exhaust, etc), includes all trackdays with recognised operators (at 10% excess which I think is standard now), agreed value at £45K, underwritten by Allianz - the premium this year was £370.

Ask to speak to Darren Saunders - he understands the whole 'RS' thing. [;)]

Which RS are you buying? And post some piccies when you get the car.

Welcome to the '64RS club!!

Try AON, Classic Marques policy -01252 767141.

Mention my name.

Another happy Hagerty customer here - very good to deal with. Real people who understand these cars and how we use them / look after them - a very refreshing attitude from the insurance industry !

Although this won't be as competitive as a company such as Hagerty for example, it might provide a useful alternative for some owners who only use their car on the road very occasionally: DayInsure.com

It belongs to a friend of mine and is underwritten by Norwich Union (and is also available on their own website).

You can insure any car for anything from one to twenty-eight days; all done in minutes online, you print the certificate of insurance off.

I just got a couple of quotes for a '91 Carrera RS worth £50,000 as an exercise. For one day for me, comprehensive cover with a £1000 excess and including their own breakdown cover, tax, vat (where applicable), admin charge, total payable was £23.68; 2 days was £45.13 and 3 days was £56.61. There's a minimum age of 23 for drivers and they won't insure anything worth more than £50,000; but it could be useful for some.

If your 964RS is one of several vehicles that you own, it may be worth trying Footman James as they do multi vehicle policies. They can combine classic cars and modern on one policy and provide guaranteed valuation on the classic cars (964RS is treated as a classic) - Tel 0845 458 6792 -ask for Margaret

For example my policy has:
Alpina B10 - daily hack
964RS - with guaranteed value of £70k
MK1 Escort Mexico (highly modified) with guaranteed value of £13k

There are no mileage limitations on the policy, cover is fully comp. and includes commuting in any of the vehicles.

All of this for less than £1k!! - if I insured the vehicles separately the best quote was £1,500!!!, strangely the Mexico is the most difficult to insure - not the 964RS.....

I think I also am going with Hagerty.

1. They insure European track day which AON do not. (Not the ring ..)
2. As fellow Hagerty drivers we can try each others cars --- insured !
3. My son (who is 28) ca share track days with me only paying the track day premium wich is 10% of the insurance value per day.
4. They play less of a wobbler if a car is modified --- my N-GT is in the same tune as Jamie's Lightweight and many did nothing but complain that it was too much power --- 335bhp and 415 Nm ??

They had an a nice answer to every difficult question I asked them, and will now have three of my cars(pension plan --- so I'd better not stack them !!)

Good people to talk with ...

And a big welcome to the most enthusiastic register of the Porsche Club !!!! [:D]

Hagerty here too.

All my cars with them - adding a second, third, fourth car etc is just rediculously cheap.....and proper enthusiasts that REALLY know their cars.

If every companies service in the UK was like these guys the country would be a better place to be....gobsmackingly good.

Hi

I use A Manning for my two cars (964RS and 355 GTB [sorry!]). They cover business use and track days for about £500 each car. Also, not worried about modifications.

Good luck and welcome to the club!

David

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I've gone with Hagerty - my quote was £375. Interestingly Aon was £450 through Royal and Sun Alliance but that included 5 free UK track days - so would be cheaper with after 3 UK trackdays but downside being they will only cover European tracks on a case by case basis even at extra cost.

Collecting the car on the 17th - here's hoping for a few dry and salt-free days soon.

David

When you say red car is that the one reg j 780 ggt, if so I used to own that car. Got some old pics of it and history. Always very strong engine on it.

Kind regards
