RS leather bucket

The standard leather bucket seat looks very much like the Recaro Pole position. The only difference other than different colour leather is that the RS on has a centre stitching on the cushions. Are they actually the same seat?
I gather you can still buy the leather buckets in bits, so is it possible to get the grey leather cushions to fit a Pole possition seat? Is there any other difference between the two?
Alternatively if anybody knows of a leather bucket for sale anywhere please let me know!

Mick, second hand leather buckets seem to turn up a couple of times a year on here, ebay PH, autojumbles etc..... try southbound I am sure they can trim some pole positions for you in leather.

Personally I would fit a standard pole position for trackdays for now and wait until a genuine pair of seats became available.

It sounds like you have found a car with comfort seats,,,at least you have a car to consider...which is good [:)]

Depending on what your physical prowess is Mick...[;)], if you are going to do trackdays I'd skip on the pole positions and go straight into nomex SPG's.....I've got a pair of the original PP's but found I was sliding around on the leather at trackdays and that was with a harness. SPG is a much tighter fit, sits you lower down and grips you into the car....put the harness on and you are well and truly connected wth your RS....beautiful. Did about 2k km in a week ( Le Mans Classic, 2 days at Spa, day at ring and home ) or so over the summer and found them extremely comfortable.

SPG comes in a couple of sizes going back to the prowess thing.

PP's are very comfy don't get me wrong it just depends what you want to use the car for. Mrs S found the PP's great but was very cranky after a few miles in the SPG.

As Clubsport says....take it you've found one of those german dentist spec cars with the "comfort" seats ?

cheers,

ben

Hi. I have a pair of leather Recaro SPGs that Southbound trimmed for me (with factory correct stitching on the cushions per David).
Cost £2,023 for the pair this time last year (but I did have special order Speed Yellow inserts - tart).
Reckon my car must have been a Teutonic dentist special, as the man says.

Just tried to add a picture, but file too large apparently.

Jeeeze Ben, I could hardly squeeze my fat arse into the leather bucket, never mind having the space to slide around!

I am looking at a dentist RS with comfort seats at the moment, will know more after the new yr. Really beats me as to why people would want comfort seat with an RS, what's the point? Not only I have to change the seat, I have to change to the RSR spoilers as well. That'll cost me a few £k![:(] Not sure I can be bothered to get rid of the elec windows and airbags, they can't weight that much surely?

As for the seats, I'll probably wait for a genuine set of RS leather bucket. So pelase, if anyone know of a pair for sale, please let me know.

Not sure whether to keep the small spoiler and the comfort seat or to sell them though. Planning to keep the car forever, but I might get old one day and might just need the comfort seat to drive the car![;)]

Really hope I can get one before Oulton!

Hi Mick, is the car you have in mind located near Skipton? I was thinking about it myself until I got engaged! Looks a lovely car, though like you was slightly unsure about the comfort spec.
Rgds, Richard.

Hi Rich, the car is still in Germany. Do you have any more info or contact detail on this car in Skipton? The one I'm looking at now, the seller's not even sure if he wants to sell yet![] Still waiting for him to get back from his skiing hol! On this one, I'll need to change the spoilers, seats and steering wheel! As for the elec windows, it's prob too much hassle for too little gain.

Hi Mick, the car is at Sean Lockyears, Priced at £48,850. Polar silver LHD comfort (elec windows). www.seanlockyear.co.uk
Alternatively Hendon Way Motors have a midnight blue lightweight car for £89K. RHD 25K. Pricey? Rgds, Rich

Leccys windows in a Lhd are a great thing to have,,,,,just ask anyone stuck behind me at the Dartford crossing booth, when I unclip the 6 point harness and reach across to manually wind the window down to throw a quid in the bin and then reverse that sequence....aaaggghhh!!![]

Mick, don't underextimate the cost of fitting and spraying correct spoilers.....
I would wait for the right car to come along.......interesting to see you are booked in with a speed yellow 993RS for the Oulton day ???? [;)]

At the rate you are going you'll have bought all the bits of the car before you even get the car [8D]

OEM will only do on an RS, but what about a nice Recaro number as from the GT3

[:-]

Blimey; I thought my RS had a pansy spec with electric windows, A/C and airbags (albeit, fortunately, with RS Recaros), but I see that the Lockyear car has an adjustable steering column and central locking. No mention of a sunroof though - phew!

Good point re elec windows. I guess I'm just too lazy to not keep it. I'll just have to go to the loo before I go on the track, that'll save about the same amount of weight I guess![;)]

I was quoted around £3.5k for a set of OEM RSR front + rear spoilers, plus respray. I guess I could get some money selling the small spoilers, (do you know how much I can get for them?) which hopefully will offset the cost a bit.

I'm REALLY hoping to get one by the Oulton day otherwise I'm turning up with my good old C2 again![]

Yes I did consider that one, not the right colour for me though. I did consider Polar Silver for a while, but although the colour is lovely, it's a pain to match and respray.

Hasn't the one in Hendon Way been there for donky's yrs? Not surprised for that price![:-]

Aparently OPC won't do a OEM RS leather bucket as a whole seat, but you can buy it in bits. But if you add the cost of the bits together you end up paying over £3k EACH!![:-]

I'll either wait for an OEM one for sale, or go for the Pole position and get Southbounds to paint the shell and use RS grey cushions. Alternatively I can go straight to the SPA with leather from Southbound.

Mick,

Here is a rear wing for you....and its yellow, not SY admittedly but hey....

http://www.gtclassics.co.uk/parts.htm

Drop Paul a line, not sure if he has still got it....presumably he would have mentioned it as you've been in contact with him re a car.

Don't worry about the electric windows ( my riviera has them ).....true it doesn't fit the ultimate RS ethos, it just gives you an excuse to go and buy another one with wind-ups to keep the leccys happy!!

Best of luck.

Thanks Ben, I remember seeing that spoiler for sale by Paul on e-bay a few days ago, and it says something like Clubsport "style" spoiler, ??? replica rather than genuine, will speak to Paul about it next time I speak to him.

Well, just placed an order with Southbounds, Dave's a very knowlegeable chap and very friendly to deal with. In the end I went for SPG with OEM colours leather re-trim. Black with grey cushions complete with correct stitching and perforations and colour coded seat backs. It'll take @6 wks.
Was thinking of the Pole Position but the SPG just hugs so much better, after trying both in the Autosport show. Shame Dave can't get hte SPG shell, and it dosen't come in leather, so I have to buy the fabric seat, rip the covering out and re-trim it with leather!
