RS LWT VIN plate location

Morning all,

I have been looking at a few cars in Europe and have come across one that originated in Japan. All the other cars that I've seen so far have the VIN plate located on the off side inner wing above the chassis leg at the front under the bonnet.

The car from Japan does not have the plate there - were they ever located elsewhere or is this likely to indicate repaired accident damage? I know that not all 964's have the plate located there, but not sure if this is the case with the RS also.

The car looks very good and if it has been repaired then it appears to be a very good job. There is no question that the car and shell are genuine RS, and that the VIN is correct for the car. If it should be present and is indeed missing, is it possible to obtain a new VIN plate for the car from Porsche?

VIN plate is under the front edge of the petrol tank (very hard to see if 92l tank fitted) & on later cars also on the near side screen pillar.

Thanks - the VIN is present and correct in those locations - its just the chassis plate in the o/s front corner that is missing.

Hi Martin,

No the car is LHD. Its black and located in mainland Europe by the way - just thought I'd mention that incase anyone assumes its the Guards red car for sale on pistonheads - I haven't been to look at that one... yet!

Jon,
The red one on Pistonheads (the 911 Classic car) has been discussed at length before on here. PM me if you want to know the story - I examined the car for myself while it was being prepped for sale.

I have a HK RHD car that still has the vin plate in the normal place.

The vin number is of course under the fuel tank --- if a later car with the larger tank it should also be on the near side A pillar.

If you are interested in lookat at cars, please see mine in the members for sale area.

It is red and LHD !!!
