RS Mags refurbed - the results.

I visited Pristine Wheels on Monday for the tour organised by Alexander Drobik. He will be writing a full report to be published in PP very soon.

Following the tour I left my wheels with them to be refurbished.

I just thought I'd show 'before' and 'after' shots so you can see the results. The multi-stage process involves eco-dipping, bead-blasting, hand-finishing, venting, etch-priming, and lacquering. Some of the stages are repeated to ensure a very high quality finish.

I'm very pleased with the results...

Only one observation --- is it not the case that the mating surface to the wheel hub should be left with only the thinest layer of protection in order to ensure optimum mating surfaces and heat trasfer from the disc/hub assembly into the magnesium wheel which also acts as a heat sync ?

As an side, I have recently replaced the tyres on a set of wheel which had had only a very thin layer of paint applied --- I preume to make the Magnesium identification as clear as possible.

Unfortunately when the balancing weights insde the rims were removed, they also stripped the coating to the bare magnesium --- which I then had to paint and then seal.

I don't know who refurbished these wheels --- and nor do I know how the two sets that I have had refurbished will compare !

Anybody else with similar experience ?

P.S. They look a massive improvement --- is one allowed to politely as the cost ? Or would this be impolite ? !

You are correct. Pristine mask the mating surfaces and ensure there is just a very thin layer of paint on them (the photo probably isn't clear but if you look closely you can see the difference in finish to the rest of the wheel).

Pristine usually charge (I think) in the region of £115+VAT for a magnesium wheel. I'd guess normal alloy wheels might be less, and split rims more.

They do look very sharp Rich, the only way to tell how good, with any mag wheel refurb is how long they stay looking that way. [;)]

Only really a prob if you are tracking car where heat build up huge -unlikely in Rich's case......[;)]
