RS or not... looking for a new Porsche

fix

New member
Hi everyone,

Been looking for a new Porsche ever since I've sold my 993C4 some months ago.
Not found what I'm looking for, and now I've found an RS.

Have some questions to see if the car is right for me, or I shall find an 964 Turbo instead or other model.

Would like to have a special car, that I can take out for a ride when I have time and feel for it.
Want to have fun/enjoy when driving and feel that I have something special that not everyone has, also a little comfort could be nice.
1-3 track days / year for fun.

What I understand, RS has not that much comfort..
But it will give me great fun when driving.

How is that car to take for a longer ride, 2-3 hours ?
Will I get crazy over the noise ? or will I enjoy the engine sound as I did with my 993
Can it be driven in town ?
How is it to own ?
What to look for then buying
How much is expected to pay for 'em ? ( see what I found below... )

I've found this car in Sweden (yep.. I'm from Sweden..)
http://www.blocket.se/vi/17318909.htm?ca=23_9_s

Talked to the owner...

* Been tested at OPC, no remarks
* Damage in front after accident/crash (been repaired and OPC has no remarks, they also checked the frame/body)
* Some track time, much ?
* Fully serviced/stamped book.
* Imported to Sweden 96
* Original wing is there..
* ~73000 km

Price ~£42000 ( 500000 SEK )

Regards
Patrik

I personally would not buy a damaged car without knowing what the original damage looked like. Its got over 73000KM and it looks expensive to me at 42K when it has been banged. Man RS cars are getting expensive - actually doing much better than my pension. Perhaps I should buy a couple more [:D]

Hi Patrik.

How to describe chalk from cheese...

I recommend driving one. that should tell you everything.

But noting your points of:

Comfort, you have answered that yourself.
Can it be driven in town? Yes, To be avoided. I describe it as a single purpose vehicle.
What to look for when buying, is a huge question.
How much? somewhere between £33,000 (something questionable, only someone who really knows them, should even read.)-£60,000+ for a very low mile A1 car.

Start here, at £42.995:

Has to be one of the best sourcer's around.

(The car you have linked, has very little information and has a 3.8 wing, I expect it not to be a 3.8. (to me those wheels look like the not so accurate replica's.))

I expect you will go the Turbo/other, route.

It's not an 3.8, Owner has original wing...
Owner says it's the magnesium wheels.

Will get pictures of the car next couple of days.

What I understand, RS has not that much comfort.. CORRECT[:D]
But it will give me great fun when driving. CORRECT[8|] (Smooth Roads)

How is that car to take for a longer ride, 2-3 hours ? WEAR EAR PLUGS AFTER 45minutes[:)]
Will I get crazy over the noise ? NEVER[:D] or will I enjoy the engine sound as I did with my 993 WITH WHAT ??[:D]
Can it be driven in town ? OK - IN A SMALL TOWN[8|]
How is it to own ? MAGIC
What to look for then buying TRY seanlockyear.co.uk - I GOT MINE THERE

I think it will be perfect for you
Good Luck

Looking at the pic of the black swedish car... When cars have frontal damage and are repaired why do they leave the headlamp washers in the front bumper? To keep the car looking 'proper RS' it would take less than an hour to remove the jets and fill the holes before spraying.

I think what Rich is saying, why not make them look like a RS bumper and take out paint and fill the jets, many many 964RS have already have this done!

I see what you are saying but the ones i have seen like that don't look too convincing close up. You can usually notice shrinkage marks after the filler has had time to settle. Still, i agree, cheaper than sourcing another bumper.

Where to find an original RS bumper ?

Will get detailed photos of the car, then I can see how they fixed things.
The car i 8h from my place, and I'm not just driving to take a look, so we start with some photos.

Another question:

I can buy an GT3 MK2 real Club Sport - Black/Black, 35000km, from 2004 in great condition for £46k
Why would I want an 964RS, or why havn't you all bought GT3's ?

(guess I'll be flamed now... )

I think the GT3 will be the 'fix' you want. Prices are falling for used modern Porsches in UK at a greater rate than previous years and will probably continue to do so , maybe same in Sweden , so there is chance of a bargain.
The GT3 is not difficult to drive , fast car , more comfortable than 964RS.
The only problem in town is speed bumps knocking off front spoiler.
Suggest you go over to the GT3 forum and try them out for wisdom [:D]

I kid you not - talking with the 964RS guys at Croft - the 964RS supplied to Sweden has the headlamp washer jets! [8|] Why? Who knows.

First thought ... crazy to not buy a much newer car...
Problem is, ever since I bought my 993.... I looked for an 964... Normal, Turbo or RS...
So I'll guess I like the classic look and aircooled engine...

I used to own J780GGT; it was a good example and drove well.

It had had a light front tap but was good. i bought it from Tech9.

It had a strong engine. i put on 993 RS front struts too so it was a little more bearable.

I sold it in 2003 for £25500......

Do look at 993 RS too and be wary of paying too much for either!

Kind regards
