RS Prices

I test drove a 996 GT3 RS at Paragon yesterday, I also took my car along as a possible part exchange. I am a realist, it's done 125,000km and has a few battle scars so it is never going to be top end money. I thought that it would be around £50k, similarly priced to Jasons on Pistonheads. Paragon consulted with a couple of experts in the trade, one of which valued it at high twenties, the other low thirties. Needless to say, I don't have a GT3 RS now sat on my drive.

Was I being unrelistic?

Funny that I thought they were Porsche specialists, and they sold one not long ago in rubystone may have rhd but think it was in the 50's. Funny how dealers have trouble knowing how much a cars worth when they are buying but become instant experts when selling [:D] I guess Mark has to fund his 956 ? or was it 962 racing somehow [:D]
In all fairness low thirties is probably what you'd expect as a trade in, as they will no doubt retail it around low to mid 40's and make something in between. Not that i'm suggesting that is what your car is worth. Just working out there thinking.

What did you think to the GT3RS?

Have been toying for a long time about swapping to a newer car from the 964...

Smooth, comfortable and very fast. Just what I need now that I am getting on a bit. It also has air con.

I went on holiday to the Algarve this summer and had a look at the new curcuit there, I had the idea of driving down and doing a trackday. Then I remembered that I have a 964RS and it was 40 degrees.

No Steve the 96RS great car and prices (where) reaching parity in some cases and very tempting to jump horses, for a tamer steed with more power and more importantly newer chassis.

Prices have softend since the January Spike for all 64/93 RS ...... keep it it seems a good car especially with that Henson Racing upgrade[:D]

An RS isn't an RS without a Henson towing eye![;)]

I think a good but used RS, without an stories, is worth at least £50K. Try to find another at the moment. Original cars, whether they have lots of miles on or not, will always sell. Those which have been bumped and/or messed around with i.e. the car which JZ Machtec have, are much harder to shift. Look at the cars which SCoM, Gmund and GT Classics are selling.

I bet if you put your car on Pistonheads at or around £45 -47K it would sell quickly and I bet some of the above would take it on and return even more!!!

In the mid to long term, the 964RS will be a much better bet than the 997 GT3RS.

I don't think Des is right about the spike. I don't believe prices have slipped but remain about the same, the only change since the early part of the year has been a stabilisation of exchange rates. The previous slide was, in my opinion, the catalyst for UK cars heading to Europe (particularly Germany).

Pound has dropped to 6 month low against the euro.

Flat Six quotes 50-80K euro for 964 RS.

Try Speedservice.nl or Thomas Schmitz if selling.

Big Al should have bought when he had the chance!
