I had a VERY frustrating day at Oulton yesterday, after Des Sturdee, Steve Brookes and Andy Tims very kindly offered me a few passenger laps in their cars. I got there and paid the £10 fee to enable me to be a passenger, and asked about hiring a helmet because I didn't have one of my own ( stupid move I know) and because there were so many cars and passengers there ALL the helmets were out!! I even left my mobile number with the girls in the office in case one was brought back in, all to no avail. Sorry Des,Steve and Andy, maybe next time? My very great thanks must go to Chris of Centre Gravity who saved the day by getting me a helmet AND a ride in a black 964 RS driven VERY ably by Neil (?) a Scottish lad. He didn't drive at full power due to the light rain at around 3.30, but it was enough to get me hooked! I don't think I was quite ready for all the side to side and up and down movement but the speed was amazing. I felt OK (if a little quesy) until being driven home by Paul Williams alias Polar964!! I started to feel as if I was seasick for 5 mins. but it soon passed thank God!! This won't be the end of me attending trackdays but next time I'll make sure I bring a helmet with me! I may even buy one! Thanks again to ALL concerned.

U just needed to ask -I've always got a spare helmet!!
Is that the one that kept poking out of that bust zip Mel???
btw, thanks for the ride for my mate, made his day. I really think he'd marry you the way he was talking on the way home.
Thanks Mel & Jason for the prompt reply. It isn't easy to know who is who when you don't know the faces of anyone!! Next time if necessary I will shout! As I said before I will be better prepared for the next trackday!! Hope to meet more people then.

Don't mean to break your mate's heart, but I think Melv is already in a happy relationship with the owner of this little green number...

Brian, good to meet you and thanks for explaining why you didn't come back for a p/x ride. I presumed that you must have got lots of better offers [].
It's definitely worth getting your own helmet so that you're always ready to go out at any time. I don't know about others but I tend to watch and see how busy the track is when it's an openpitlane day. I then dive out when I think it's quiet enough as that's the best time to get flowing laps. Therefore, it's difficult to say to a passenger come back at such and such at time and I'll take you out. It's far better to let the drivers you've arranged to meet to know that you're around and then grab the ride as you see them getting ready to go out.
P.s. The forthcoming PCGB trackday at Oulton is an ideal day for p/x rides because it's midweek and quieter than the RS day. It's scheduled for April at the moment but the rumours are that it will be switched back to its normal date of the end of October.

Brian,
Get yourself a helmet, an open face bike helmet is fine, usually a bit lighter than a full face. Don't need such strong neck muscles. Just make sure it is up to the required standards with the labels stuck on it. If you do borrow or hire a helmet get a silk balaclava to use with it. Slightly more hygienic and easier on the ears pulling it down if it is a bit tight.
Cheers,

Steve,
Excuse the ignorance, but where can I find the PCGB trackday diary? After some great passenger laps courtesy of Frazer and his lovely supercharged 968CS, I now desperately need to get mine on track soon!
Great day all round. []
Cheers
Nick, there's some information here (don't know how up to date it is) and it's also published in Porsche Post each month:

Definately worth getting your own helmet! (Try Demon Tweaks etc) Lol.

Let me know which tracks your going to? Suggest your first few track days aren't with the RS contingent as they are Blxxdy fast and you spend most of your time looking in your mirrors! Try Bedford as a first one. Its clean, open, fast as you like and no armco to kiss!

Craig, good to meet you too[]
Just got my own helmet and the ride with Frazer was its christening!
I love Oulton, but I think I would enjoy my car more somewhere with bigger run-off areas...[], just until I have found the limits, you understand[]
I was going to join the Liverpool Motor club too as they seem to run some at Aintree - just need to take a bit of a run up for the some of the higher jumps..[]

I remember watching Tony Pond in the Sun sponsored Rover Vitesse in Liverpool at Knowsley !! I think he made it 500 yards before sliding off and hitting a tree with a big impact that totalled the car!!

Nick, get yourself to the PCGB day at Donington 8th June. Its a Sunday as well.
Plenty of run off - well depending where you go off[] - lots more than Oulton.
Hoping to get the usual suspects re 968 along and there is always a good turnout of 944's.
Not quite as hard core as the RS lads as there are a few first timers and lots of different ability/speed.
I have even offered a bar-b-que at our place afterwards before peoples long trek home [&:]
Cheers
Dave.

Steve, thanks for the advice I'll have a look for a helmet soon.I have been to a mid week PCGB trackday at Oulton just to spectate which is why I wanted to try and get a ride last Saturday. I'll try and keep in touch via the forum to see what's happening with you. See you soon hopefully.
Fred, thanks for the reply and your advice, I think I will get an open face helmet which will probably be a lot better since I wear glasses and need to be able to put them on to be able to see what's happening!! Maybe I'll bump into you sometime soon at one of the trackdays etc.
