RSR BRAKE ENQUIRY

Fella rang me yesterday...

"I spoke with you on the phone this afternoon with regard to rear brake callipers on a 964 RSR.
The reason for this is I am actually after the calipers for the rear of a 964RS but in red. Or as they are referred to as the "BIG REDS".
I know most people paint them but I am actually after a genuine set of rears in red.
Can you help with any parts numbers etc or even someone who may be able to help
Thanks for your time this afternoon.".

As far as I know, they are larger than an RS and the same as fitted to the 911 Turbo S.
Look forward to your replies!!

If you look at the Brake Specification page on 964uk.com (here) you'll see that the piston sizes on the rear brakes are the same across the RS and Turbo cars although the rotors are 4mm thicker on the Turbos and the calipers are actually different. The RS uses 993 calipers whereas the Turbos use specific 965 calipers. The fronts do, indeed differ though. All the details are on the linked PDF above.

Dave

Edited to remove remark about the Turbos using the same rear calipers. They don't. The 3.6 and 3.6S use different rear calipers to the 3.3 Turbos although dimensions of the pistons and rotors are the same.

I always thought that the upgrade was bigger fronts and then the original fronts put onto the rear. Maybe i'm wrong.

Martin

i have them on mine,964 turbo 3.6 rear calliper,i have standard rs rear discs, fronts are big reds which are same as 964 turbo and 993 rs i think,964 3.6 turbo front discs

i think the pistons are same size on rear callipers as on standard rs,i bought mine from fvd.de

993 rs has same calliper front and rear,i think?

I've been through this one on my own car, which had the conversion done when it was a couple of years old and the bills to prove it. I've replaced all of the calipers now, the "Big Reds" on the front of my car are 993 RS items, whilst the rears are standard 964 RS (which I have not had painted, they remain original black).

It's only the front calipers which are "Big Reds", the rears, if they are red, are invariably 964 RS items repainted. I'm sure you all know this but 993RS rear calipers will not fit the 964RS, they are simply too big for the discs.

I was also told that the later 968CS had 964RS rear calipers where the earlier cars were --- standard 968.

The popular 968CS brake upgrade was either the M030 pack of brakes and ARB's from Porsche, or Big Reds (or Blacks) at the Front.

Ditto.

You don't need bigger calipers on the back unless you are an official harness webbing strength tester!
