RSR mufflers

I have just purchased a set of RSR mufflers from Gert Carnewal of Belgium. Cost about £330. Heat shields another £100. £130 to fit. Total cost around £560.
They sound absolutely brilliant. Well worth the expenditure.

Where as my 993 came out at 108db when fitted with RSR's...sent them back!

Yes they were fitted correctly!

I've had no problems on quiet days at Donnington with RSRS on my 993. I was borderline at Oulton Park.

I'd say RSRs are probably the only option if you want a better sounding exhaust and want to keep going on track days.

£130 to fit them! Should take a mechanic with a lift no more than 1/2 hour per side to fit.

Are you sure? I put Carnewal's RSR mufflers on my 993S and it sounded better but not that much difference really. I have now added 100 cell cats and 100 cell cats plus RSR's = 106db (I know, I got thrown off Croft) and 106db is REALLY loud.

Something was definitely awry if RSR mufflers on their own gave you 108db.

What is that combination of RSR's and 100 cell cats like for road use? This is a combination I have been looking at as I don't use my 993 on track, but don't want day to day driving to become a misery.

I've got RSR's and Dansk 100 cell sports cats on my '95 C4 and whilst the noise is amazing, it really is very loud when idling...no problem with resonance on the motorway at all, tis just idling and under load...my wife doesn't think too much of it!!!

I think the 100 cell Dansk cats and RSR's sound fantastic. I agree it is loud when idling and under acceleration sounds pure race car. I also agree however, that constant throttle and motorway speed it is extremely civilised - little difference from standard and certainly not obtrusive.

The only thing though, is you may lose a little horspower. Wayne Schofield re-mapped my car with sports mufflers at 305bhp. I then put the 100 cell cats on and RSR mufflers and took it back to Wayne to re-map again and he maneged 298bhp. We were all surprised as the 100 cell cats are supposed to release more power so could only put it down to the RSR's - lack of back pressure perhaps, or just the 100 cell cats and RSR's don't go well together.

Either way, I will shortly change the RSR's to Dansk sports mufflers to match the cats, send it back to Wayne and see what happens then.

From a noise perspective, if you don't do track days and you don't leave for work at 6am (which would really wind up the neighbours) you shouldn't have a problem.

I'll re-post when the matching Dansk mufflers are on and Wayne has had another go.

I have heard the 100 cell cats on a 993 with standard mufflers and even then the sound is great.

which would sound better? RSRs with standard cat, or standard/motorsound mufflers (I think i have the soundpack, but how do you tell?) with 100cell cats?

100 cell cats definitely. The RSR's on their own do sound better but the difference is not particularly marked. The 100 cell cats make a big difference. If cost doesn't play a part go for the cats.

If cost does play a part, or you want a more subtle improvement, the RSR's on their own may well be your thing.

Whereabouts are you based - if you're in the North you'd be welcome to hear my 100 cell cats and RSR's as it currently stands.

When I put the Dansk mufflers on at the end of September - I'd happily let you have the RSR's for a lot less than I paid for them - that way you'd have little outlay before deciding whether they were Ok for you.

unless you mean in the north of ireland, it's probably a bit far for me!
that would be awesome, i'll definitely take the RSRs off your hands 100% please put my name on them!!

great looking car, if I ever change mine it will be for a yellow tt.

Your name's on them. I'm getting the exhausts changed at the end of September so will email you/post a thread at that time.

To throw another option in ive opted for standard mufflers and Dansk de-cat pipes.
Sounds fantastic, has been tested at 101-104dbs(different tracks, always got on).
You save 15 pounds in wieght off the tail end.
Cost £195.
Definatly increased mid range punch (ive never dyno tested)
Oh and still passed 2 years cat tests at the MOT

Hi all

I finally had Lee's RSRs fitted for a christmas pressie. (my other half is great!) They sound great, much deeper/burblier at tickover (ok ok I admit i made a special trip to underground carpark) and low revs although not really louder and no difference at top end so may go for 100cell cats/cat bypass eventually.

My car was advertised with motorsport soundpack when I got it, does this part number match up with that story or are they standard?

Thanks again Lee!

I fitted RSRs to my targa.

Happy to tackle most mechanical jobs, but liberal use of the angle grinder was required to get old rusted clamps off - so £130 fitting may not be so bad!

I think the RSRs on their own sound great and happy with the exhaust note - not sure my neighbours agree as it is my daily driver and I leave at 6:30 - 7:00 each morning for work !*!

Only issue I have with RSRs is that water collects in one of the boxes and each time I start up it gurgles until the water evapourates after about 5 mins.

Thought about adding 100 cell cats, but worried may be too loud....

RSRs caused me no probs on quiet days at Donington either. Not sure how they'd be at other tracks but Donno is pretty strict. Lovely as the RSR sound is, it's no where near as loud as some other cars on track days.

The reason RSRs are lighter is because they've had some of the baffles removed.

In my opinion they are by the far the best value exhaust mod, and they also appear to be standard to the mot people.

standard cat with RSR's was 100db on my 993, sometimes just over so had to go for extra silencers (bolt on in place of tips) for Castle Combe days (Ok for pretty much every other circuit), xtra silencers took it down to 98db. Then went for 100 cell cats and sport exhausts on Cargraphic NGT system, 105db on my car, not OK on hardly any track, with extra silencers takes it down to 100db and just get onto Castle Combe and everywhere else. Am now switching to cat replacement pipes and std silencers as fed up with fitting extra silencers, will see if it can get through Castle Combe and also what effect it has on the BHP (I have the billet head conversion on the car)
