RSR's - How loud are they?

Hi all,
I'm contemplating fitting a set of RSR mufflers to the 993 as I miss the souns my old 3.2 made with it's SSI's fitted! However, I don't want to make it to noisey at motorway speeds, does anybody have any experience of RSR's on a long term basis? Though's / comments on any alternatives would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Phil

I had them fitted to my Targa. They sound lovely but can be a bit boomy at 3K revs, so you just have to go a bit faster to get past that! If I bought another 993, I'd definitely fit them again.

Hi,
can't say how loud rsr's will be. But I'm picking up my first porshe next monday, and that's had supercups fitted now. I've got a 4 hour motorway drive back, I'll let you know 'too much' they are.
I have got a link to a u tube video domorton sent me, a 993 with 100 cell cats and supercups

When I heard it, well, you make your own opinion...
but I loved it and it made me smile very wide indeed!

Just loud enough! Had them fitted by Gert on my 993 18 months ago and it makes the car sound like it was always meant to be. Absolutely no problems with resonance etc. You will not be disappointed! It is also worth making the trip to Belgium, because Gert will do the change over while you wait - then visit Ypres on the way back for a late lunch and some history.

Ha ha - the video clip is my car after fitting the supercups. Absolutely amazing sound but the resonance with the 100 cell cats is too much between 2500 and 3500 rpm. I also set off a car alarm when pulling out of a t-junction just so you can imagine the volume! I reckon it is as extreme as you can get but with a normal cat maybe about right!

BTW - Mine are still for sale. Not in a hurry so taken off eBay for now but if anyone wants them send me a PM or reply here..

Cheers,

Mark

PS - RSR's are good. The only issue I had was with the 2-3000 rev range on motorways...a bit boomy! However, I tried 2-3 different ones from Gert Carnewal and they all sounded slightly different which he did explain to me so I guess if you get the 'right' ones for your car they are about perfect...

Ditto. They sound the way you would expect a 911 to from the factory. Some people have reported resonance on motorways but I have had no such issues. In fact at motorway speeds you can't hear them inside the car at all. You will find yourself winding the windows down and blipping the throttle at every opportunity you can.

Thanks all for your input, I think I might be fitting RSR's in the New Year!
I don't suppose there's anybody in the East Mids with a set fitted that I could listen to?

Thanks,

I've had Supercups fitted (standard cat) for almost 5 years and love the sound. Each to their own.[:D]

Same here, a bit boomy at 2000-3000rpm, but I have no wish to put my old silencers back on.

After I had the LPMM mod done on silencers, I sold my old silencers to a guy with RSRs. My notes between his 993 and mine when testign in a car park:

RSRs have a bit of resonance in the car when hitting loud pedal
Idle of LPMM deeper & more growl
When revving, the exhaust tone is higher with RSR

Construction:
RSR's have silencers' contents removed and have hi-teck ewelding to make the switch look invisible (before fitting).
The LPMM is effectively a silencer bypass pipe, as used for later version "sports exhaust switch" which effects idle and when accelerating/decelerating where the gasflow entering the silencer changes, moving thru the bypass pipe instead; sudden deceleration produces some pops occasionally. At constant throttle there is barely extra noise with the LPMM but very noticeable when revs change. I love to hit it, especially from 2500-3200 or around 5000 with windows open.

Best example on youtube here, with no cat either:

LPMM with cat bypass
I am very happy with the LPMM route though people speak highly of both this and the RSRs. As with any exhaust mods, make sure oxygen sensor is in good nick to prevent different peaks and troughs in torque curve.

Hi, I get the same resonance issue at about 2,500 to 3000 but then clears. Sound on start up and idle is superb burbly noise..although bit of a risk of waking the neighbours if you go out for an early drive!
