Rubber bonnet guides meant to line up with foam blocks?

Here's a question I can't find anywhere on the internet!

Each front wing has two little rubber guide blocks fitted that pick up the edges of the bonnet when its closed. The guides position is dictated by the cut-outs they plug into in the wings.

On the underside of the bonnet, outer edge, there are two little foam blocks on each side. These fit into a channel on the bonnet and can be located almost anywhere.

Question: Are the foam blocks meant to be positioned so that they contact the rubber guides when the bonnet is closed?

Back Story: If the foam blocks aren't aligned with the guides they don't get compressed, so seem to have no useful function. But when the foam pads are aligned with the guides the bonnet release function becomes stiffer.

Hey Andrew, I noticed the PET picture you posted differs for that of my '86 car. The picture you posted is for 82-85 cars, and there an interesting (to me!) differences:

  • quantity of part 12 reduces from 4 on the earlier cars to 2 on the later cars.
Cost cutting on luxury sports cars or weight reduction? [:)]

And part 2 remains at a quantity of 2, in line with Waylander's input, we have only one bulkhead per car.
