RUF mopping up

Does anyone have any opinions about recent reports that the famous modifier RUF are buying high mileage and poor condition 993's to modify and remarket.

This will take the cheaper cars out of circulation and push them into the untouchable sector for most of us 993 lovers, it may also increase the values of the standard cars.

Is this good for the model?
Is this good for current owners?
Is this good for people looking for restoration projects?
Do RUF add value or modify to an unnecessary market?

I'd like to know your opinions, I certainly have mine.

I can't imagine the volume of cars will have much of an impact on the market. Just like Singer buying 964s they must be a mere blip on the market. Surely the bigger impact is from dealers and speculators driving up prices beyond reason. Irrational exuberance comes to mind.

Well if they are doing this then the prices of 993's will probably go through the RUF [:)]
Seriously though anything that increases the value, exclusivity and desirability of our 993's has to be good news doesn't it?

Not sure about the ruf situation, and I'm pretty sure that if it's true they will only be interested in left hand drive cars anyway.
In my opinion the 993 should be left alone, in standard spec, as it left the factory 20+ years ago. It was good then, and it's great now !

The comment in the video (taken on their stand at Geneva in March) about them having 25 new shells stockpiled is certainly interesting! That does seem a little unlikely though, given the cost of purchase and storage over quite a long period and would any company just plan to sit on such things until a certain point? Then again, being RUF, perhaps!. I'm sure that even if new shells are not being used, whatever is done in modifying this model will only enhance good original examples and will anyway only account for a small proportion of them. RUF certainly have a very serious approach to turning out modified cars of the highest quality and these also have a restrained appearance not always found in this field. Their exhibition at Geneva was one of the most impressive and included this carbon fiber body section.
