Rumble Noise from rear boot ?

nominal

New member
Any advice please,
when running over cobbles or rumple strips I get an annoying vibration / rumble noise from the boot area, I have taken the boot lining out which appeared to be loose and acted like a stick and the metal base part the drum ....I ruled that out, I then adjusted the hood cover dampers but to no avail as it still remains, any ideas, is it the suspension ? its driving me potty !

Check for wheel bearings - friend had to replace his on S after only 12,000 miles - sounds like the same noise he experienced.

oh.....that sounds expensive, do you know how to check. ?.do I have to jack the rear up and wiggle the wheel ?

When my front wheel bearing went, it squealed (the squeal getting louder as you take a bend at speed). To replace a bearing will cost you about 2 hours labour, the bearing itself costing £18.85 from www.Eurocarparts.co.uk

If it's a bit like a knocking sound it could be a roll bar bush, which is cheap to replace.

Does sound like the problem I had on my '99 2.5L. It was found to be, for me at least, the nearside rear radius arm front bush. The arm has to be replaced as well as its one unit. You can order it from Eurocarparts (about 160-odd quid as memory serves.

You have my sympathy as the rattle it caused drove me nuts after a while and its diagnosis was a bitch (yes we did have the hood off / struts off etc.).

cheers,

Iain

Thanks chaps for thoes thoughts, I will have a go over christmas at trying to get to the problem, is it a specialist garage or can you DIY problem ?

Was the noise worse when just setting off with the car cold or was it all the time?. I think I have a similar problem but it is very slight and seems to diassapear when everything is up to temperatur.

No....its always there, I thought it was the compartment above the engine, both the metal lid and the carpet section not being fitted properly,.but having removed both.....and following a test drive... it wasn't.......it is better when there is a lot of weight in the boot.......its driving me mad. I thought someone in the forum may have had the same prob, thanks anyway
