Hi guys, im looking at using my 996 though winter and i just wondered wether any of you have done this. Im currently pricing up winter tyres and a new set of alloys for them however the tyres alone are £700!! Im not sure if i should buy a cheap car for around a grand and just use that or use my porsche. Any thoughts are welcome.

I drove my C4S through last winter on it's original alloys and it was fine. Needed washing 2/3 times a week so the Karcher got a good bout of use. I wouldn't worry, maintained well, it will be fine.

Just as a thought, If you are looking for some wheels i have some original C4 17" alloys for sale they have tyres that have some tread around a few 1000s miles. They are in good condition and i am looking for £400 for them. If you want some pictures please let me know.

Cheers Phil

The winter wheels thing only really affects 3 piece split rims and polished wheels. The standard wheels with their painted finish will be absolutely fine and I've been using my car loads the last few weeks because I'm in the new car love phase. Drove to wales and back along slippery mud, standing water and driving rain. With 4wheel drive, one of the most advanced traction control systems available in any car to date, heated seats and the bose stereo up I can't think of a more suitable or comfortable car to be in :) (although I'm not sure the full grown chap in the back for 500miles would agree) ;)

I couldnt post the pictures file size to large, havent got the time to work out how to reduce it, email me if you are intrested and i can send you pictures.

They are 2 x 7 17" and 2 x 10 17"

Would work well for winter wheels.

Cheers Phil

Actually ive changed my mind i think ill just buy a cheap car for winter then sell it in summer. that way if a skid and damage it, its not a problem.

Mine is a daily driver - all year round. It wasn't very good in last winter's snow, but I am sure winter tyres would make a huge difference.

It isn't what I do by using it in the snow that concerns me - it's the worry that some other idiot will hit me!
