Running problem when warm

The car starts off the button when cold but once warm shes a pig to start its seam like it aint getting fuel ANY IDEAS

I had a 944S a few years ago that was a pig to start when hot - I had the injectors cleaned and replaced the fuel pressure regulator, neither of which solved the problem. I then changed the DME relay and that did the trick (although not sure why - perhaps the old relay was on the way out and particularly sensitive to temperature changes!) For the sake of £20 it's worth a try - and if not then you've got a spare DME relay!

Good luck

Mick

Cheers Mick I have given it a good kicking this morning and it seamed fine may be a good shake up after I had it to bits. Lets hope so or as you say a dicky relay

£20 for a dme relay ? Porsche want £58 for one now. I bought one last week in an effort to cure a hot starting problem ( got one for £30 ish from design 911 ) I've just ordered a fuel pressure regulator ( just over £100 from porsche ) and now I think I probably do the temp sensor as well ( £38 from Porsche ).
The car starts fine from cold but when its hot it feels like it's not getting fuel. It'll start but run at low revs , not respond to throttle and then it'll just burst into life and then be fine until you switch it off again.Or it just wont start or start perfectly normally.Am I on the right track or should I be looking elsehwhere ?

My S2 has very similar symptons. My research has led me towards a non drain back valve which I think is adjacent to the fuel pump. Theory says that these fail and allow the fuel pressure to drop when the car has been running and it takes a few seconds for the fuel pressure to build on a hot restart which is experienced as a slow/reluctant start. Haven't got around to changing it to find out though!

Mine starts instantly when cold but takes maybe 10 secs of starter when hot. As Monkeythree - I researched and concluded its the non return valve. So, I also bought one but have not got around to fitting.

Ian do you have a part number also a photo of the valve mate so I know what I need

Regards

Andy

Andy,

I bought mine from my OPC:
Valve 94460895101
In Feb this year it was available in the UK and cost me £16.37 inc VAT
I think its common to a lot of other models (911) so should still be easy to get.

If you google that part number you'll get loads of images.

Its screwed into the fuel pump and connections can be seized apparently - hence my reluctance to get under there are fit it until it gets worse. Mine always starts OK, just takes more cranking than it should!

Let me know how you get on - it may encourage (or discourage) me to change mine.

Ian

think the bosch part number is 16149068988,

the reason its hard to start when hot, the valve keeps the fuel under pressure in the rail to stop it boiling and creating a vapour lock in the injectors,

Sounds a good idea Paul.

Its going to the Porsche garage tomorrow to get it sorted before it sells I may not be buying an Escort but I may be buying a Harley instead. Hows yours coming along?

I'd go for DME temp sensor - it's only a few quid and easy to change

Check the plugs - if the sensor is faulty it will have been running rich & the plugs will be black

Get it fixed and get it driven Andy. A good car and wasted sitting in the garage. You got rid of the Escorts for a reason, don't let the 944 do the same [:)]
