Running without a dash

Any issues driving the car without the instrument panel in?
I have a really annoying, but only occasional, rattle behind the dash and I'm keen to take the car for a spin with as little dash in place as possible to try and identify it. Apart from not knowing anything (or recording mileage - got plenty of that anyway) any problems?
It would only be a few shakedown miles.

I think it may be illegal to drive on a highway without an operational speedometer.

Could overcome this with a speed-showing sat-nav attached to the windscreen ...

Off the top of my head I can't think of any offences but the con and use regs usually mean if its on it should work except bizarely the number plate lights, which are not a moving traffic offence. As I am not what they call in the job a shiny a**e I may be wrong tho.

Not sure about that as you don't need a speedo to pass an MOT.
Oh. Interesting. I didn't know that.

It could be that a car needs to have a speedometer fitted in order to be approved for sale in the UK (i.e. if Ford wanted to produce a car without a speedometer they wouldn't be allowed to.)

Or it could be that I am wrong! [:)]

Thanks all.
I really meant whether having the instrument panel missing would confuse the car in any way? I shan't hang around long enough for anyone to see me [;)]
